I've been developing for the TouchPad and other webOS devices for a while now. It's a nice machine.

Nice machine, nice OS, waste of time (|edit| and money |edit|) to actually own one or develop for it due to its microscopic market share that will eventually kill it.

Does it matter if the market share is small? Most of us here develop games and apps for free anyway - we develop because we can and because we want to. It doesn't really matter if nobody else sees what we do

My webos sales are on par with my iOS sales too, and in less time, due to less competition. They aren't great but I do it for fun anyway.

The market isn't large, but who know exactly how big it will be. The TP was only officially released two weeks ago. I doubt it will ever amount to anything but a blip on a radar, but it's getting some market share.

BTW I haven't bought a TP, and don't plan to anytime soon. But I can still dev for it.

What language do you need to develop for the Touchpad?

For WebOS (Palm Pixi, Palm Pre/Pre2, HP TouchPad and HP Veer) you can use a number of languages from JAVA through C++. You will need the official SDK (available for free from HP). Development and distribution is completely free too - no need to pay for licences (a la Apple) or developer/stocking/other fees (like Android).

Or you can just use GLBasic - which will allow you to releases exactly the same game on iOS devices too (and plenty of other devices), without changing anything.

I got my Pre2 free from HP (simply requested to develop for it) which kickstarted my love of webOS. And it's so much nicer to develop for than iOS devices - no XCode or certification crap. HP are in the process of sending out free dev TPs and loaner devices, as well as money off coupons to support the systems.
