I think that Blitz3D was offered online for free and might still be however, I can see that there are benefits to being registered to the Blitz site officially.

This is probably a stupid question but, is there any advantage to having the full version of B2D when you have the full version of B3D?

Blitz3D has never been free to my knowledge but I know that BlitzBasic 2D was given away in PC Plus many years back in order to promote Blitz3D.

Yes Someone posted a complete free version of B3D on the internet.
I still have that somewhere.

I did go to get the free account on the Blitz website but I had to contact the admin for instructions on how to make the B2D demo the full version.

Really!, are you sure it was legitimate though?. I paid about 80 quid for Blitz3D.

It may not have been a legal copy however when I downloaded the software some months ago, I did email Blitz research.

The link might still be there.

Also, how does a person register this Free version of B2D so that the demo becomes the full version?

1) First go to the link that Jay provided at the top of this page and scroll down. (blitzbasic.com/Products/_index_.php)

2) Copy the code number/Blitz User ID (BUID) that is in the BlitzPlus part of that page and then click the part that says "Click here to create an account." or use the following link. (blitzbasic.com/Account/signup.php)

3) After agreeing to the disclaimer and filling out the form you will be taken to a product registration page, choose BlitzPlus in the drop down menu and paste the the box below that.

4) While logged into blitzbasic.com navigate to "Account->Product updates", the download link is in there.

Enjoy.

I got it. I think that its a subset of B3D. The good thing about this is that I can access some of the tutorials on the Blitz website.

That was more of a gift than the software itself.

BlitzPlus may only be 2D but it has built in stuff for GUI, that's something that Blitz3D doesn't have.

I see some windows API calls.

Why they left this out of B3D is beyond me since B3D does more.

...

you can use the windows API in B3D, since it supports calling DLLs.

I remember reading about it but never explored by actually doing it.

Dont forget that by default, the Blitz+ graphics driver is DirectX7, but, you can change the driver to openGL which speeds the rendering up apparently!

I see some windows API calls.

Check out the userlibs folder in the Blitz+ root directory, here, there is a guide on how to use your own DLL's, but, you can also point the userlibs to system32 DLL's, by stating the library (e.g. user32.dll), then, specifing which WinAPI functions you want to include!
