There are loads of different versions, each with different abilities.
The standard basic Fitbit is simply a step counter, with a 5 day battery life.
In all honesty, if all you want is step counting, and sleep tracking, you're probably better off getting a MisFit Shine.
The MisFit needs a mobile app for proper tracking, (Android or iOS compatible. .. Might also work on WinPhone, but honestly can't remember, sorry!!)
Since it has no "face", and instead only uses little LEDs, it also doesn't need the battery usage. A single CR2032 watch battery will keep a Misfit shine going for 6 months, which is EPIC compared to the Fitbits 5 days!!

If you want a watch, go for a Pebble, because you can code stuff for that, and coding is fun

Hold the pineapple, add more jalapenos! Nope, can't have pizza, dieting... gahhh.

Wifey had a fitbit for a while but all it did was count exercise times which, lets face it, if you do exercise, then , you know you're doing it, how long was spent sat around and how broken up sleeping was, which was the sole interesting feature about it imho. Perhaps I'm just getting more skeptical about things nowadays, hmmmm.

My Dad got one (or something similar) for Christmas. He took great pride in showing us the time he got up during the night to use the bathroom etc.
