Confirm my calculations please

We have around 5670 paving bricks with the size of 22x11x4.5cm so a single brick volume is 1089cm3.

So the total brick volume is 6174630 cm3 = 6.17463 m3... that'll mean I need over a 6 m3 skip to get rid of them... right?

If you crush them all to powder you might get more in...

I don't know about the maths, I doubt you'll have the time/patients to stack them perfectly so they'll take more space than their volume.

Just throw them over the neighbours fence and save on the skip!

ROFL!!!

Oh and my calculation for the number of bricks is based off around 135sqm of paving... and I worked it out 42 bricks per sqm

@spinal - yeah thats true and what about if the skip isnt perfect too. Most of the bricks are 40mm in width and the driveway's are 50mm, so I've got a bit of wiggle room.

If it's going to take more than a day, it might be cheaper to get a smaller skip emptied that using a larger skip. Not sure on that one though.

Don't forget to allow space for the gaps between the bricks (unless you're arranging them to tesselate perfectly within the skip). Also the three or four of your neighbours' old mattresses that inevitably appear in the skip overnight.

Alternatively, if you've got storage space, pile up the good ones and sell them off as reclaimed bricks.

Get an 8 yarder, chuck them in, if there's room... Tidy the shed! Done!

Basically though, skips are like anything else, the smaller you get, the more expensive they are, so just get a big'un and get rid of unwanted clutter!

@Dave - over here it costs to get rid of mattresses something like $20 a pop, so I hope we dont get any!!!

@Dabz - how big is a "8 yarder" in cubic meters?

Lol, sorry, I always treat skips in yards, in the UK, so does skip firms... Never thought about you being down under!

So, just checking, it is 6m3, but that is to the fill line (The lowest edges of the skip which is at the front and the back), but we all know you can get more in and fill it to the height of the sides, then some with greedy boards.

You may get it with a 6 yarder when stacking them nice, but, I wouldnt piss about stacking them, I'd just lob them in, so, an 8 yarder with that bit above the fill line for voids should be dandy!

Yeah going to need a pretty big one... decided on waiting to Spring/Summer now to save up and for the ground to dry out.
