I wish we had the ability to change our vote when we accidentally click the wrong one.

Since the polls are scored, if you click it, see the most popular one, you could then undo and change your vote really easily, for the purpose of cheating your score.

FWIW : I've been gradually working out how best/easily to do in-post polls. I'd still need to register the poll, the voters, what they voted for, edits and undos.
Honestly, I just can't seem to "simplify" them down to a point where they're workable in a decent way.

I recently added the @ stuff, (it's lazy BBCode stuff) and those work reasonably well but aren't sticking out anywhere or acting as notifications.
Having polls be silent like that could probably work just as well, but then what use are they, if just background noise?
.. Same with the @ things. They're just kinda there, and not really much of any worth at all, unless you're already there and seeing them.

I never really paid attention to the fact they are scored. All I know is I would prefer to be stranded with somebody I hate than be stranded alone. Unfortunately, I clicked the wrong thing,

I guess it could be done with a message box as a final confirmation.
Or maybe with 2 clicks/links to proceed ? 1 link for the vote which enables the link next to it as a final confirmation thing.

Something like this
Vote now Please confirm

Where the Please confirm link gets the visible attribtue after clicking the vote now link.

It's just a suggestion, because i think the missclicks are only a rare case.

Yeah, it's already a two-click vote thing. Click option, then click vote. I think that's enough.
It used to be a single click thing, (in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire inspired hexagonal-stretched boxes!) but those did indeed draw far too many mis-click complaints.

I think a mental "don't vote, first thing in the morning, until you're at least half-awake" rule should probably do the trick, alongside an accompanying "don't dislike spikes when you're half asleep at 2 in the morning" one.

Poll Progress so far

So very very not working.

Spent most of last week "simplifying" how polls could be done in my head, and had a vague plan of action which I started work on yesterday.
I managed to get regex to extract question and options from a simple bit of bbcode, and lay them out in a nice manner.
Today's task was to make the options clickable, by sticking them into divs, and assigning IDs. But what IDs should they be given?!

For security reasons, the BBCode parser script doesn't know the originating post's ID. Spoilers and whatnot rely entirely on random numbers to work, but for Polls, you'll definitely be needing the originating post's ID so you can backtrack and place the clicked element back into the right slot.

Hmm..
Right.... So I'm going to have to scrap everything I've done so far, and redo from start.
Oh joy.

I'm going to have to make the poll extractor part of the pre-parser, like how the Code and JSE bbcode works.

May be ready by mid-June, or thereabouts.,...!?

Hey, Jay, How come SoCoder never seems to get hacked?

Because not even I can make head-nor-tails of the script..
What chance does a hacker have!!

Not that they don't try, mind. Good grief, the daily logs are horrific.

After all the nukes go off, all that will be left are roaches and Socoder. Socoder just keeps chugging along.
