Socoder -> On Topic -> Hard Drive Ghosting - What's the best?

I'm paranoid, not because i think my hard drive is about to die, but because if it did, i have no solid backups. My entire setup is a mess, and i'd like a clone of my current system since if it were to hit the fan, i would be prepared. I've seen Norton Ghost come up a billion times, when i normally just used Windows Backup. Unfortunatly, Windows 7 screwed up their backup utility, and i don't like how it operates. So here it is: What hard drive backup tool would you recommend?

The one I use is True Image Home by Acronis, I have used it many times and have never had any problems.

I don't know about best, but I've had no trouble with dd, which is cheap, free, and easy.

It's included in Knoppix, which ironically is handy mainly as a way to back up and repair Windows installations.

I've used Symantec Ghost plenty of times in the past, and it works just fine. But most of the reason I used it was for deploying the ghost image onto 30 computers at a time over a network, so, for personal use, I couldn't tell you tbh..

I've used G4L (used to be called Ghost For Linux but changed for obvious reasons) many times to duplicate a number of Windows machines for work. If you want another (free, open source) option, there it is.

Here's something that may help you.

It makes a complete image of the drive.

Im liking TrueImage though don't understand much about it- like SecureZone. it's pretty solid for what i need it for, though.
