Socoder -> Art and Sound -> Trying out organic 3D modelling

So i'm still being an antiquated bastard and working on my Blitz3D project, Pyroxene. Since i'm a one-man show on this (except for my design guy, who's sitting behind me doodling on whiteboards as I write this), I'm having to work on all of the programming and art by myself, with only his direction on what it SHOULD look like, while I pilot the controls.

So We're designing some critters for our planet, and i'm working on some history for it. While as I'd like to develop what we came up with tonight into a full model... Sadly, these creatures are only mentioned in passing and are extinct in the game world, So only a skull should suffice for now. They're supposed to be a sentient being from this planets version of Earth's Carboniferous period, so they look sort of amphibious / reptilian, considering everywhere was swampy and hot.

Here's the test render- Let me know what you think!

I didnt know councils did game designing too!

Shove a mouse in the lazy buggers hand and get him grafting on something, the lazy git!

Indeed, with the right tool, anyone can do it! Perhaps he just hasn't found the right hammer, yet.

Looking good, though I'm a bit curious as to why the skull still has eyeballs!

Jay- Was an aftertouch, just to see how it'd look IF i developed it.

An earlier model looked like this, without eyes:

Well, we had a learning workshop today, and since this is kind of a moderny-futuristic SPACE MINING COLONY BUT OH NO STRIFE game, there are guns and stuff since everything is trying to kill you.

So after my designer smashed some things together in Photoshop (Hillariously, might i add.. the end result was very much a bastard), we set to work on teaching him the beginnings of modelling. With me still mostly at the helm, I let him take a crack at modelling one half of a weapon while I did the other (Upper/Lower system some modern firearms employ, very effective and nice for modelers since it's interchangeable)

Here's our results. You can see the uppers/lowers, of course, but i'm going to blend them together and start on mapping it. Again- let me know what you think!

Kickass!
That's a gun, there's no denying it! Give your new modeller a pat on the back, then set him off making more!
Bravo!!

Yep, that's instantly recognizable as a banana. Sorry, I meant gun. I always get those two mixed up. Imagine the surprise I got when I went to the local zoo one day and gave all the monkeys sub-machine guns. It was horrible!

Yep... Looks pretty nifty that, well done that man there!

Hopefuly he'll enjoy doing it and take a little bit of work off your todo list... Which is what you want!

Cool stuff! I'm sure it'll look even cooler when the UV mapping is complete!

Web / Game Dev, occasionally finishes off coding games also!
