Socoder -> Retro Stuff -> surprise off my brother....

He thought it would keep me busy... Never realised it was there as I've just woke up from a slumber...

He could've plugged it in!

Apparently it was for the grand sum of... £26 off ebay, he got a good deal there as its a gt65 monitor which easily sell for 50 snorts on the bay, which is proper handy as it has the socket for my 6128!

Still... He could've plugged it in!

Woohoo, CPC FTW!!!

I'd be wary of that desk, though. Be sure it's proper solid wood.. The monitors are fucking heavy bastards!!!

Well... I've fired it up... Monitor works, and so does the 464 keyboard, noticed a few keys have been replaced, I'm assuming they've been replaced with foreign keys as they are slightly larger then the rest, and number 2 has a @ symbol instead of a ", azerty?

Anyway, 6128 goes in fine, 12v connection works for drive, so yeah... Lovely!

Cannot believe the size of the 464 when next to the monitor, it's huggggeeeeee!

I might replace the keys on that, and possibly look into using it as a pi case of some sorts... I can probably shift the internal gubbins on eBay as there's bound to be a broken one out there needing a new set of guts... I'll think about that one... Probably not do anything but it's gonna be a long six weeks!

I have an original boxed JY2. Could be worth as much as 40, 50, even 60p!

Honestly, it's bloody crap. It uses those useless "clicky terminal" things which are prone to failure. So, get something nice with microswitches, like a Competition Pro.

Nixy nowt... To be truthful though, I've always liked using keys on computers, yeah consoles you cannot get away from joy pads and that, but, even on a PC I'm a WSAD kinda guy...

I'll just buy a cheap one as as soon as I can sit properly, it'll be rarely used!

Nice bit of kit there!

Imagine what you thought of the size of the 464 when you were 10!

I rarely used a joystick on my CPC, so all the Dizzy games can definitely be played with keys.

I presume he doesn't want to play with keys, rather than he can't play with keys.

While I mmainly played with keys, I wrecked no end of joysticks playing Decathlon, Hyper Sports and Combat School though! And Sorcery was joystick only.

You can, all the ones I've played.

Suspect it's having a second arsehole that's stopping him from sitting up and using the keyboard.

Well... Out of boredom the other day I ordered one of these bad boys:-

And it's just come... Like, obviously because I've got a photo of it!

It's a USB floppy drive emulator for the 6128 (464 ones are available, and don't require an external power supply)

Basically, you plop the game/app disk rom[s] into the USB key on the PC, then, slot it into that sexy little device there, turn on your CPC, run a bundled app, select the game/app disk and voila... It's as if the physical disk is in the drive!

Lovely idea, and only 26 snots for the board only, I bought the preconfigured USB drive because I'm bone idle, and I already had a 5v adaptor going, but I imagine you can get these on eBay for nowt!

Just wish I could buy a new bastard arse so I could get playing!

P.s. Oh didn't mention... Tried it, works great!

I can safely say, this is the nicest picture you've posted this week (even if it does come up sideways).

Makes me want to dig the auld 6128 out and start probing it with a multimeter, see if I can get to the bottom of it's power problem.

I assume it writes, too.
Might end up having to get one, myself, but first I need the actual drive working. The purpose of mine, right now, is to somehow retrieve the old stuff I once created in the 80s, from the hopefully still functional floppies!!!
Might not work out, if I don't get round to it, soon..

Jason Brooks was showing off one of those virtual floppy things on the Amstrad CPC 464 facebook page last week, he seems rather chuffed with it too.

Let us know how you get on with it.

Just a thing about the 464 version, it is 50 odd quid, but, you don't need a 5v adaptor, and you get a nice lcd display, which obviously is handy to see what disk you have in which slot on the device... With the 6128 version you have the slot select buttons on the top, but obviously, you sorta have to navigate blind to get back to the HXC slot or if your choosing a different disk you press one, |dir and rinse repeat until you get to the required slot.

But the device itself is titchy, as I said, only 26 quid, so I can live with that... I'll probably end up with my faves on there anyway and will sharp map them in the auld grey matter!

Well... my disk rom collection mostly consists of... Everything... So, weeded out foreign roms and pd roms, created and formatted 10 blank disk images, and gathered all the programming/system disk roms I need, converted them to the correct format of the floppy emulator and now firing the whole lot to the USB drive!

Should sort me out for a bit!
