Weekend bounty

I have a show-and-tell! Posted this on the socials so you may have (or not) already seen. This is what I bought over the bank holiday weekend (in addition to the Lego).

The Atari Flashback book is pretty good. They had reduced it to £1.99 in the sale, not sure I would have been so quick to get it at the RRP of £14.95. However, it contains the instructions, hints & tips but more importantly the descriptions of the game modes. I have a real 2600 so this will be handy to keep close by, and I've also got all the games on a Flashback handheld that takes an SD card so will be useful for that also. While it does not contain all of the games published (it's only what comes on that original Flashback) it never the less has a good selection of the common games like Asteroids and Space invaders where game mode 1, 10 and 33 or whatever, actually means something to the game properties.

Then there are three board games. Don't know if I've ever said, but our house loves modern board games. Anything with cards, tiles and meeples in particular. Currently have three cupboards full of games!

Happy Little Dinosaurs is a fun game made by the Unicorn people I picked up at Forbidden Planet. It says a game can last 30 minutes but I can see most taking 10 minutes due to the dangers you face. Basically you have to survive extinction, and we know how that went, but in a humorous way. There's funny cards and some great illustrations, of which the front cover gives a feel for. There are four cute dino-meeples in the box, cards and indivdual game boards for each player - so ticks all the boxes for us. We really enjoyed this one, although it helped watching a video on how to play as the rules are a lot simpler that the way they are explained in the instructions.

The next two games I picked up in Chance and Counters, a board game cafe we discovered in The Custard Factory. We were looking for somewhere to have a coffee and noticed this place tucked away in the corner, they have two other stores/cafes in other parts of the country. For £3 per person for two hours you can play as many games as you want from their huge library. You may have seen other places like this near you as they are springing up all over the place recently.

We played Lost Cities while in there which we enjoyed. They had a shop too and saw the game there so bought it. This game requires some math skills to tally up the scores at the end of an expedition, I might have to make a little app to speed that part up

The last game is Deep Sea Adventure, in a tiny box. There is a submarine to track your oxygen supply, treasure tokens that you lay out to make a path to the ocean floor and six diver meeples. Not played this one yet but it looks like it will be a fun game. The instructions are confusing but got the idea of it. Probably play this one later in the week.

Next up is a trip to IKEA where I bought a couple of those picture shelving things. Got some already, one used for the Vic 20 in this picture and the new one for the C64 above it. Handy as I can take the C64 down to use when needed.

Also a longer one to put over the door which holds a bunch of mini arcades perfectly. Running out of space so this seemed like a good idea.

That's a Z80 in the tiny picture frame to the far right of the picture shelf. Extracted from a dead CPC 464 back in early 2000's before there were any repair people I knew about. It was a grotty machine that was in a bad state inside so possibly not one that could be repaired but I wish I hadn't binned it, or atleast salvaged some parts like the keyboard. Easy to say in hindsight but you know how big these things are and I had a working one so I couldn't justify keeping it. I didn't know anyone else who was interested in old computers at that time (this was before Retro Remakes) so it unfortunately went to the tip

Anyway, hope you like my little show and tell.

Teehee!!

Board games haven't really been a big thing in our house, other than Scrabble.
Me and my sister used to like Monopoly, but that was usually reserved for Xmas.
I owned other board games. Heroquest, Downfall, The Neighbours game, Twister, Star Wars Battleships we spotted in Home Bargains. There's still a fair number sat in my bedroom. But they rarely ever got played.

I really do wish we'd spent more time playing board games together.
Bah, humbug..

Heroquest (new edition) goes for £100 ... would love that but can't justify that much. Do you still ahve yours?

Yep.
Most of the figures and a few other bits now live in here.

I was going to put the furniture into a larger one, but forgot how flimsy they could be, especially when stacked into a relatively small area.. so they're back in the classic box, instead.
