I haven't found the need to create multiple bases, but having one "home" is nice to hop back to on occasion. Building up the lovely house, putting a few industrial power refiners in there, and maybe a nice food processor, and then getting into cookery.
You can't really do that stuff without at least one base. But you don't need more than that one, unless you happen across a nice planet and would like to revisit it!

On my PS4 account I have a lovely big Beachfront House, and a nice Camp with lots of little wooden huts!
On my Xbox account I have a number of towers dotted around. None of which I ever really called home.
So far on Switch, my original tutorial base still remains, and I have a new one on that "fps slowdown" planet!

(You can delete bases you no longer want, too)

Ah OK. Good to know. I guess you can use the teleporter stargates at stations to go back and forward on your route?

This is now the furthest I've got to in the game.

Thanks for the tip on getting the Switch ship and multitool.

I've had the game crash four times on me now. Twice before patch and one after each of the first two updates. It would have been annoying but I didn't lose progress despite the save date and time suggesting so. On all four occasions after a crash I've restarted where I was with everything I had / had done so could continue on. Now that was unexpected ... well done Hello Games.

Have I mentioned shooting the ground from your ship, yet?
If not, I'll mention that now.
Point your crosshairs at the bottom of objects and blast away as you pass by, and it'll rack up loads of carbon and ferrite dust, as well as the odd other bits and pieces.

Over on Twitter, @SebastianLenton (DD's brother) was interested in the reduced polygonal style of the switch version.

I suggested that, due to me playing in Handheld, there may be an "extra" reduction, to account for that.
To test this out, I've taken the following screenshots in both handheld and docked modes.
(Handheld on the left, docked on the right)
There's very little difference between the two, IMO. The docked version seems to be doing cleaner textures, but otherwise, I can't honestly tell the difference.
Docked, then Handheld, Shift+Click the images into two tabs so you can easily compare them.

With the latest version, the buy and exchange price for ships is coming out exactly the same ... are you seeing that?

Is that based on the free Switch-Ship?

I did think of that initially but I'm finding it with which ever ship I'm flying.

Really cheesed off that No Man's Sky isn't on Mac, yet...
From here on, I'm going to have to focus on AGameAWeek 2023.. There's no time left for flying and wandering aimlessly.

World's Part 1 has finally made it through the approval process and is available on the Switch. Better late than never. Clouds and water does look good. I see some brief slow down on a lush planet when I first get out of my ship, it only lasts a second and then it goes back to normal. Not a big deal. Seems like a good update.
