I feel like trying to learn to type again, I seem to be getting worse at it.

Even after doing mandatory typing class at school, and being a geek most of my life, I still can't touch type and still only use four fingers while using my thumb on the spacebar.

When I was a wee lass and our school had just gotten Apple 2 computers, our English teacher gave us a printout of the QWERTY keyboard and we had to memorize it before the class was allowed to touch the computers. I already had a computer at home (TI-99/4A they were literally giving them away for free back then), so it was a non-issue for me and I could type fast. I could type fast into the early 00's, but somewhere after that speed disappeared. Hands aren't in the best shape anymore and the brain probably isn't firing on all cylinders after my concussion in 2014.

Remember way back in the day, one of the BASIC code books for the CoCo2 had a typing speed testing program. No idea of thee accuracy, but I got over 90 words per minute. CoCo2 actually had a fairly decent keyboard, so it may have been close...

I think the biggest thing for us all is as we age, hand-eye coordination goes down, and life's wear and tear on our joints doesn't help. Nor does whacking our head as a kid when we fell, or even as an adult All that shit accumulates. Takes us longer to think of things than as a kid and longer to react..

Nah, there's something else going on for me. I think either my brain is faster or my typing is, because nowadays a lot of my mistakes are when I'm trying to think of what I'm about to possibly write in a minute after I've written this bit.
My GCSE English teacher once told me that was probably why my handwriting sucks.. because my head's about 5 or 6 words ahead, and my handwriting struggles to catch up. I think that's what my typing's doing of late.
.. and I say that because of the above game.
Because having to read and type at the same time was such a different experience than I've had in a long time. Having to pace my typing, and write at a more sensible speed helped my accuracy a heck of a lot.
I mean, it was still full of horrific errors, but for the most part those were punctuation based, because ChatGPT kept throwing random commas all over the damned place!!!

That really summed it up for me for about two decades now. Brain is faster than the hands. The why is the question.
