Ups

What did you get done this week?
  • Wordsearch
  • Sheep Goes Left (25%)

Did everything turn out as planned?
Wordsearch turned out nicely, albeit a bit shit!
Meh, you make a Wordsearch game, and that's what it ends up as.. no amount of Arcade Rules can stop it!

Meanwhile, I got about 25% of Sheep Goes Left done, and it's really turning out nicely.
the 25%, btw, is the really shit boring menu/level progress/etc stuff, so now it's a case of bundling levels together, adding new elements to the different worlds, and other fun playthings like that.

    woot!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Anything that didn't involve sheep!

    !?
More AL stuff got done, and lots of sprite doodling, but nothing website based, this week

    Drew this, though..

    Fuck!! That doesn't look shite!!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Sheep Goes Left

    How's that going?
    Wonderfully!

What's the plan for the week ahead?

I gotta start making a big bunch of levels, and decide whether Adventure Two will be included in the first release.. ( = need to make twice as many levels! eek!!)

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • New Greenfoot Gallery release!
  • Finished the PMC modals & sound
  • Moved to my parents for a week

Did everything turn out as planned?
The new Gallery update includes a new front page, users page, scenarios and collections listings and some other minor bits and pieces.
So it's quite a big change.
The release had a few technical hickups, but after getting it out there was only one major issue: embedded content in the forum had stopped working!
We now have that, and some other minor CSS bugs, all fixed.

Given that I wanted to implement the new front page within the constraints of the existing site design (so I could have it done in weeks rather then months), I'm really happy with the results.

But the technical issues have made me wonder (again) about how good Rails is as a platform. When it works, development is bliss. But when it comes to deployment there are two main things I really don't like; 1) in practice you cannot deploy a Rails site without being logged into a bash terminal and 2) it's just _not_ cross-platform (lots of little differences and bugs you have to work around). Regardless of what I think about it syntax wise, I love how trivial PHP deployment is (but only with the right frameworks) and how good it's cross-platform capabilities are.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • PMC release still isn't out!

    Why not?

The forever on-going sound support for PMC is FINALLY complete. It works, it's out, and we have lots of other stuff too. This includes new modals, major performance improvements, bug-fixes, and some more new features. One thing still remains: the launch blog post (it's half written). Right now I'm still doing some testing; ensuring bits that aren't normally used by regulars (like sign-up and activations) all work. This will be out by Friday.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
Right now I am at my parents looking after their catz.

    How's that going?
This stretches my management skills to their limits. Why didn't they eat this mornings food? Should I give them a little less to make up for that? Should I give them more servings a day, but smaller? Should I go grab them to encourage them to eat? I also need to ensure the older and more slow Moses always gets fed as much as the younger (more greedy) and more spritely Ming. So far, so good.

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Created a nice clock for my iPod touch using rather simple javascript and googles graphics.here.

Did everything turn out as planned?
Mostly, although I discovered that whoever wrote 'perpagehtml' for jailbroken iDevices, made it case sensitive, it took me ages to figure out why 'widget.html' wasn't loading.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Any sort of real coding.
  • Learn more PHP
  • Find a new job

    Why not?
    Lazy

    Now

What are you working on right now?
  • Deciding that iPod apps to put on my iPod for the flight.

    How's that going?
    Meh

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Redesigned my website
  • Wrote maths code for my game, trying to reacquaint myself with shaders in OpenGL ES, etc.

Did everything turn out as planned?
The site redesign went fine, I think it looks nice and readable. Not quite happy with how messy the CSS still is, but I'll probably run it through an optimizer or something later.

Something is wrong with the maths code, need to compare it to my reference stuff. Using GLM until I fix that. Aside from that, a lot of earlier work on bits of the renderer have proven rather useful.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
    Nothing I can remember

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Eating a sandwich.

    How's that going?
    Well enough.
