Energy Saving Monitor

Oooh, new gadget!!

We got one of those nice neat little energy monitors, free, in the post this morning.
Strap the sensor arm around a wire (*shrugs*) and it wirelessly transmits the power usage to a little base unit.

Here's some quicky stats!

Downstairs PC - about 50 Watts
Kitchen lights - fucksocks! about 70 Watts
Downstairs Telly - about 110 Watts!!

...
PC's staying on

I shall now continue to run around the house, unplugging things to see the stats!

But how many watts does the energy saving monitor use?

Minimal, the transmitter has a massive battery, and the monitor is 1970's lcd technology!

Southern-electric sent us the thing. We could choose between that or more of those god-awful energy bulbs...

... Although.. Having seen the power the kitchen lights currently use.....

The kettle uses 2000 watts!!!!!!!

...man, I want one of those energy monitors. Sounds cool, that way I can find out how best to save energy - money too!

I bet the kettle is nothing compared to an oven...

Oven's actually about the same, except you'd have it on for much longer, so the overall amount would be massive!

What about your dishwasher?

You should make a game of this, Jay's House! Maybe like Tapper, but in your house with electrical applicances instead of beers. People would walk around turning things on and you have to run around to turn them back off to keep the watts down to a minimum.

But you could try to make it as close to your house as possible, maybe even using camera pics of your appliances.

We don't have one. Never have. We did think of getting one, but it was always a case of "Where to put it, without disrupting the rest of the kitchen."
Then, when we finally realised where to put it, my sister had moved off to uni, and it was just me and mum in the house.
Not really dishwasher worthy!!!

What about your washing machine?

I only realised halfway through it's Spin Cycle, so I didn't get a complete list of what uses what. You'll have to wait until the next wash for one of those
