I now have a moderately interesting box stacking game. Which is quite entertaining to play around with -- for example building a tall tower and then placing a box between a pair of crates in the middle.

However, I have no idea what to do with it. How should I turn this into an actual game? What should I add to make the fun last for more than half a minute? Give me ideas!

Corrupt archive? Hmm...

Try this one instead.

Running the exe...

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Maybe my WinRar is old.

Bah! Why does that always happen when I make something in VC++? Let me fiddle around with it a little bit...

The file size just keeps growing, but if it works then it's got to be worth it. Let's give it another try:

No luck, sorry.

I know for visual basic (eww!) I have to distribute an installer for the runtime library. Maybe there's something available on the Microsoft website?

I don't want to include a runtime library; I just want the program to run out of the box :/ Why do they always have to complicate things so much?

I'll continue trying.

If anyone can bother, then try downloading this first. After that, you can try running my program.

Even if this does work, I still need to find a better way of distributing things.

No luck, maybe after a reboot though.

Oh my god! It works! I've finally managed to fix this damn error!

This is the final error-less build.

That is really good! I'll try to think of some ideas for you. I'll keep it in the back of my mind.

Worked perfectly for me and I love it. Could you compile a version which runs full screen at 1792*1344? I'd like to play around with it again but in a bigger playing area. It'd also be nice if the boxes shoot off in the direction that the mouse is moving so I could throw the boxes around.

|edit| I especially love how you can place blocks anywhere and it will push those around it further out.

One thing I'd change though is that when you right-click to delete the blocks, any new ones you place whilst the old ones are fading out are deleted too. I'd change it so that new ones aren't deleted. |edit|

I could do that, JL. But I still need to come up with a game idea. Brainstorm!

|edit| I made it 1024x768, that's enough, isn't it? |edit|

I saw a tetris game that had boxes falling/roll all over the place.... I never actually played it, so I cannot comment on the gameplay... But the screenies looked, well, a jumbled mess!

But I think it was a commecial project and sold pretty well.

Not as good as mine:

This stood for about 5 minutes before the left side collapsed, then the right, and then half of the middle. Then when I was adding more blocks it suddenly crashed (the program not the building)! I presume it was to do with the shear number of blocks I had as it was quite slow too.

I gave up in the end, but I'm gonna try again now .
What was your technique for stacking them?
