Socoder -> Art and Sound -> Extracting frames from a movie?

I have been trying to use ffmpeg to extract all the frames from a movie, but so far I'm having no luck at all. The closest I got was to have a single frame from the avi, and I can't remember how I did it.

apparently the following should work -

but I'm getting nothing. Can anyone help me out?

Oh, I'm doing this under windows.

So far, I have managed to get a single frame from the movie (the first frame I think)

What puzzles me, is that instead of being named image-1.jpg, it is image-d.jpg. ffmpeg seems to read the whole file, but only the first frame is converted, anyone know why?

I know that Media Player Classic can extra frames and you can also go through videos one frame at a time. Extracting each frame individually might be slow and painful but it is a solution.

Depending on the format, but mostly universal, I use VirtualDub to do pretty much all my video based stuff.. (Like extracting the audio from Fraggle Rock episodes!)

Plenty of options, ability to convert, rescale, and all sorts of other things.

It's looking a bit old-hat, now, but like most of my favourite utils, it just does what it's meant to without requiring the power of 18 PCs in order to do it.

Did it, converted a video clip to a bunch of jpg's. I couldn't find and options for compression though.

had to be typed in command prompt, didnt like running from a .bat, weird.

For future Reference, there are two that i use a lot:
1)Avi4Bmp
Homepage
It creates one large image, perfect for blitz animimage
Works with *.avi;*.mpg;*.gif;
Saves image as BMP or PNG

2)Movie2ImageFree
Homepage/Webpage
Creates an image for each frame
Works with *.avi;*.mpg;*.mpeg;*.asf;*.gif;*.wmv
Saves images as bmp
