Hiya all,

What do you think of Portable Hard drive?
Brand such as westen ditals and other)

I know they are good for backup files and putting portable HD on different computer or laptop with ease.

I have a SimpleDrive 120Gb, and It's incredibly handy. Not only do I back up files, but reformatting my computer entirely is a breeze.

120Gigs is more than I'll probably ever need on a secondary drive, and unlike a lot of other external hard drives, this does not require external power -- I just plug in the USB cord, and I'm done.

My dad has a 360Gig one

power mousey
woah!

I have to check both out.
Last time I saw one it was only for 1 gig.
I think I saw em over at Longs Drugstore.

I have had a Maxtor 40 gig external hard drive
for about 7 years. Even a 40 to 80 gig Simple Drive
would suffice.

hey, thanks Nolan and Yo.

Nothing wrong with a Portable Hard Drive. It's great to have one nearby a laptop, so you can transfer huge amounts of data without having to use loads of CD's/DVDs. It's also handy for backup purposes.
But, as with pretty much all storage mediums, if it's data you'd prefer to keep, don't rely on just one copy! Make plenty of backups..

In my case, my secondary PC makes a daily backup of all my coding + website stuff, so it's always on 2 HD's.. .. If a huge fireball leapt through my house, killing both PC's, I'd be buggered, and would probably lose all my data.. eeek! But then any CD's I have stashed away would also probably be lost, so those wouldn't have helped anyway.

One of my lecturers makes backups every week to dvd and sends them to various places around the country. The only serious thing that could destroy his data would probably be a nuclear war.
