Socoder -> Question of the Day -> Programming for the Olympics?

Are you tired of watching foosball? Frisbee? Swimming? Juggling? Skateboarding? Snowboarding?
I don't know what they don't have in the Olympics today - all I know is it's quite boring. So is there any reason we can't try to get Programming qualified as a sport? How should this be done? What would the rules be like? What is your opinion on the matter? Would you participate, trying to become a world champion?

Edit: Personally, I think the simplest set of rules possible would be something akin to 'Create a game within 24 hours. No internet allowed.' Who would judge it though? College professors? Professional gamers? Compiler writers?

No. Programming should not be an event in the Olympics.

24 hours is too long..

And, it's not a sport.. Any more than "X VideoGame Olympics" would be.
So, no..
If there were an Arts + Crafts olympics, then maybe.. But only if you also accept "Compose music", "Create Painting", "Write Book", "Make a model airplane" and other such artforms..

The Olympics is about physical sports, so I doubt this idea would ever work.

I for one absolutely hate the idea of having to watch someone sit at a computer typing for a couple of hours, that's nearly as exciting as doing nothing at all. Of course there's the highlights on the news or something, "here we see the german entrant in the 100 line code, but what's this? his math is out, the sprite went hurtling off the side of the screen! bad luck germany..."*

* I have no issues with Germany, nor do i wish them to fail at any made-up olympic coding nonsense.
