A few things with that....

I know it's free, but it's three years out of date - the teams are wrong, the cars are wrong, and the drivers are wrong. I can't say for sure but I'd hazard a guess that there's been rule changes along the way, too. F1 fans don't want that, and people who don't like F1 don't want it either. It's an odd thing.

Second, F1 2015 was one of the worst versions as Codemasters in their wisdom/stupidity (delete as appropriate) completely stripped out Career Mode. Codemasters have done some crazy shit with the franchise over the years, but that one was a doozy.

Might be worth a download if you just fancy a look at what the F1 games are like - despite the fact that the 2015 version was a particularly bad example.

For me, though.... I don't get it. Who'd want this?

@gfk - I had thought this was the lesser version that you mentioned here before. Stil I might have some fun with it. I still need to try the previous free racing games they gave away.

btw: On the humble bunde a game ai book is also for sale by pact. Only 1 dollar to get it(drm free epub/pdf) I am reading through it at the moment. On chapter 2 (right now...) ; probability maps and possibility maps. ai guarding a house with nuke situation.

The best part of F1 games is when you reverse directions and go kamikaze on the other racers!!

Note : Don’t ever let me behind the wheel.

It doesn't let you do that - you get disqualified within seconds if you go the wrong way. On some tracks you can even get disqualified if you've gone off the track onto an escape road and simply trying to get back to the track.

Codemasters are hopeless at F1 games.

Hmmm...
I’ll stick to Microprose Grand Prix on the Amiga, then...

Well it's free so if it isn't going to take you four days to download it, have a look.

It isn't that the F1 games are *bad* - it's just.... Codemasters make some very silly decisions. Not only that, what happens every single year is that the game is released, gets one or two patches, then that's it. If stuff is still broken, it stays broken. Because they're then too busy working on next year's one.

F1 2017 is a case in point - there is a glaring bug where your team mate doesn't get the upgrades that your car gets. In real F1 the updates are for the team, not per individual driver. So as time goes on and you upgrade your car, your team mate will get left behind, will score less points, which has an adverse effect on your chances of winning the constructor's title. Codemasters have acknowledged this bug, and said they don't have time to fix it.

There is another bug where, when you start a dry race, and it starts to rain, the AI cars will pit, but come back out with dry tyres. They repeat this process lap after lap after lap, sometimes making 20+ pit stops in the course of a race where 2-3 stops is usual. Again, they know about this, and won't fix it.

I've bought and played all of the F1 games since 2011, with the exception of F1 2015 as I only had an X360 at the time, and this was the first one to appear for Xbone and PS4. They've all had the same problem, release, couple of patches, game abandoned in a broken state. You keep going thinking they can't possibly make all the same mistakes again, but they do, and if I keep buying it then they have no reason to get their shit in order.

... And yet, you still buy it every year!?!

What would be better in these circumstances, and god knows I'm not usually one for suggesting such a thing, would be a subscription model.
£29.99 a year, constant patches, upgrades, team data, etc..
It's not like there's any massive updates to do. The tracks and cars more or less look the same each year. All they'd have to do is keep improving the engine, fix the patches, and keep it current.

Same goes for most Annual Sport Update games.

Not this year! Been an F1 fan for nearly 30 years and Codemasters F1 games are all that there is. But i'm getting a bit bored of F1 now - haven't played F1 2017 in months. Aside from being tired of the sport itself, the balance between fun and stupid bugs has tipped the wrong way and I just don't have the patience for it.

Yeah that'd be a lot better - I don't know why they don't. Maybe it's because they know there are millions of people just like me, who buy it year on year because they have the monopoly on F1 games and it doesn't matter if it's bugged to buggery.

On a related note, to coincide with the start of the 2018 F1 season, you can play F1 2017 for free this weekend only.
