Apple Event : Typical minimal updates to things. Nothing jumped out at me, this time around.

The cpu for the ipad mini was mentioned only at the end. This was the newest a15. Which does make it interesting..

The MacBook Air M1 base model is currently "only" £899 on Amazon right now.

This is the model I have, and the battery is averaging about 10 hours.. .. If nothing else, the GameCube emulator Dolphin runs nicely on it!!

There are to many tools and games keeping me on Windows laptops. And if I get a computer it needs to be able to handle these cloud drives. So I need a minimum of 1tb space. These are a bit out of my budget range with apple.

I noticed the regular (modern) laptops are beginning to get into stock a bit. Stil very expensive. 5 years ago I thought that buying one for 950 was a lot! A descent 1tb, 3050, ryzen 7 is no were that price.

edit :

The regular ipad (2021) are now more expensive too. They have the 64gb model(cheap, but not enough space) and then the 256 gb model. The last one is very pricy!

The ipad mini is expensive too. The geekbench score puts in 100 points or so below the m1 for single core.

Space wise, I'm coping alright with the 256Gb model.
I'm currently down to 85Gb, which means I've used about 8Gb in the past few months.

10Gb sounds rather a lot, but then I've also put got TimeSplitter 2&3 Gamecube iso's on here, alongside Parappa, Um Jammer Lammy and Vib Ribbon, and a bunch of other PS1 games. Given that, I reckon I've done alright!
(The Gamecube emulator Dolphin runs really well!)

If I were more of a gamer, I think that might be a problem. I mean, modern games aren't exactly small enough to fit into a gigabyte! And most gamers seem to be using Crossover, which has its own little bump in drive space usage.

If you're doing video/music work, it's probably a good idea to have an NAS available, so you can shift stuff onto there as you go, along with all your other media files.
My videos get edited using Luma Fusion on the iPad, then saved to the NAS, and deleted from the iPad.
... The Mac doesn't even get involved, other than the odd bit of drag'n'drop!

Plan wisely, and you can cope.. But you do need to plan where things are going to go!

Another month, another event.
The M1Pro and Max chips certainly look powerful. I can't imagine needing more than what the M1 does, right now, but if you do then this is a decent spec'd system.
The lowest spec'd unit is still twice that of the lowest M1 Air (the one I got) .. I dunno.. seems a bit excessive, but if that's what the Pro wants, then that's what they get.

IMO, "Pro" should be "God damnit. Give me a sodding Numpad!!!" but apparently not.

If I get more serious with music then a m1 pro would be interesting. I read today they tripled the amount of filters that can be applied on a m1 (x) system. This with logic pro, apples own daw.

The mac pro also has a high impendance headphone plug. I have a 80ohm headphone and the sound is a lot clearer. Higher impendance would make music sound even more detailed.
The sound of the mac pro speakers look very specced up to.

The gpu on the max model is said to be at 3080 mobile level. The cpu said to be the leader on the market into 2022.

But it is mac. Windows stil looks better. The keyboard, bah. And no minecraft!
