Socoder -> Site & Server -> If Not YouTube...

If Not YouTube...

The general consensus is "No More YouTube", so let's spitball.
Where are we uploading our trailers and other videos from here on?
Obviously the SoCoder server couldn't cope with it, but what else can?
Where's a good place for posting videos?

I should be able to add BBCode to handle other sites (assuming they don't need anything too complicated) so, what are we aiming for?
Any thoughts are welcome.

Note: This is NOT yet another Anti-YouTube thread. This is a "Suggest alternatives" thread.

Rumble is the most popular IMHO. Well-rounded content. I ignore the political BS on any platform. Many people using it and viewing content there.

Bitchute is the second most popular. Many using and viewing.

Odysee is probably the third most popular.

Dlive is semi popular with gamers or used to be. Not much action there, though.

twiX allows videos/podcasts and such. Only helpful if you have followers.

Personally, I will be using Rumble, Bitchute, Odysee and twiX for videos and probably set up a Substack at some point if I want to monetize anything.

UGETube should get an honorable mention. Not something I would consider at this point, though.

PeerTube has potential, but it is not remotely popular.

Could use Vimeo, DTube, Godtube, Internet Archive. Depends on your needs and content.

Out of all of those, has anyone used any for uploading anything?
Thats the important part for us content creators. Not what you can watch, but how we can use it.

I used to use Vimeo when doing OUYA trailers, but around the same time that OUYA ended, Vimeo made some extra rules, like you can't use it for .. welll, trailers!!! They made it "pro for that", and expensive, at that.
I think they've probably gone back on that in the years since, but I've always had that "change the rules" thing in my mindset, since.

I've uploaded stuff to Bitchute and it's been pretty good so far, obviously very little reach on there in comparison to youtube but, I guess if you approach it as another string to the bow.

I have no idea. I have been watching less Youtube. But I stil use it. If there had been anything better. Than I would have been using that already.

I have uploaded to Rumble in the past, as well as BitChute and Odysse Took down the content when Carolyn died as I figured that part of my life was over. Was mainly just videos for family.

Hmm.. Well, I'll let you all decide on what should be the next "big thing", between you all.
But it looks like BitChute's already had a couple of votes here.

In general, if you've uploaded a video and you're happy, let me know where it was.

Honestly, everyone chip in as much as you can, and once I'm at the other side of this week, I'll set to work trying to integrate what I can.

Rumble and Bitchute were the best experiences I had. Rumble does seem the most popular and it is easy to live stream from. Also much easier to navigate and find stuff on RUmble.

Bitchute is a bit misleading because most tests show it is not peer to peer as it was claimed. Not sure it claims that anymore, though.

With the way things keep changing, redundancy is a good thing.

Bitchutes integration looks fairly similar to youtubes

Obvs just replace my video ID with another and boom!

After just now finishing reading up on stuff that has changed in the past two years, I really think Rumble is the best. They are not afraid to go after Google, they own every aspect of their service and have bought a popular crowdfunding service and podcasting service. It is the one I hear people mentioning most often.

Not sure I will even upload to other services at this point, Rumble seems to tick all the boxes. Extremely fast, intuitive, nice site design, active userbase for the type of stuff I am interested in. Feels like YT was before Google bought it -- community driven.

But, yeah redundancy...

Not awesome.. The Rumble one has an obscure URL.. It's supposed to be the Parappa soundtrack.. Click the "View on Rumble", and it's right, but the embed isn't.

OK, I'm not sure how Rumble's working.. If anyone can find a URL methodology for that, let me know! Too busy to fart with that right now!!

But http://rumble.com/video/v3auuxo is NOT the same as http://rumble.com/embed/v3auuxo

Can't test things as there is no embed button for Rumble.

rumble.com/embed/v389gdw/
rumble.com/embed/v389gdw/?pub=4

Both are working for me?

Does seem to at least need a / after the video ID number

|update| -=-=- |update|
For iframes it seems to help to have the /?pub=4

Yes, those are both embed URLs, though..
What's the video's URL to play the same video on the site?

ANd those two urls are the EXACT same video as is on the site when it is viewed directly.

If you are posting the link on another site and want the video to appear, you are going to need to use the embed URL, won't you?
Mon, 30 Oct 2023, 08:38

No, this https://rumble.com/video/v3auuxo is the link to the video on the site..

Yes and if you do not want it showing in the post, the direct link will suffice.

Otherwise it will have to be embedded. Whoever is making the post would naturally be using the embedded link in their post.

Directions from another forum which is running UBB.

To post a RUMBLE video, you'll view a video on rumble.com and

1] Click on "Embed"
2] Select “IFRAME”
3] Copy the "Embed URL" from the resulting popup,
4] Then you can use either the raw BBCode tag and enter "" or use the tag manager in the editor to add the Embed URL.

That is how other forums are handling Rumble. Which is natural as when a video is posted on another site it is being embedded.

Anybody posting a Rumble video will have just watched it and have the embed URL right in front of them.

I have a bazillion youtube links all over this site that 100% prove this to be an inaccurate statement.
I had to rewrite the youtube BBCode to decipher the many different ways that people post youtube urls, in order for about 80% of them to function correctly.

Rumble disabled until after the move when I've got more time to figure out a neater way for it to work.
