Question of the Day : December 1st

What household chore do you hate doing the most?
Fri, 01 Dec 2023, 02:15
Jayenkai
Waking Up!

Post-Op, the sound of the washing machine does my freakin' head in.
I'm also now quite unstable, so anything "up" is an issue, but other than window cleaning, and murdering small spiders in the corners of the room, there's not too much "up" that needs doing.
Changing lightbulbs is definitely an issue, though.

Washing Dishes. I should get a lil tabletop machine for it probably.

Web / Game Dev, occasionally finishes off coding games also!

I've started sitting on the floor whilst drying dishes. Not sure what that's about, and not really sure when it started.. I just started noticing myself doing it one day. Very odd.
I don't mind washing dishes, though. That's rather soothing, and lets my head bubble away with whatever game bugs/ideas have been annoying me all day. I do have to stoop over the sink, though, lest I start stumbling backwards with breakable dishes in my hands.
Maybe I oughta switch to paper plates?!

Question of the Day : December 2nd

What would be the benefits and drawbacks of a device that can instantly turn any object into chocolate?
Sat, 02 Dec 2023, 00:04
Kuron
No benefits for Ole' Kuron, just drawbacks since Ole' Kuron can't eat chocolate anymore.
Sat, 02 Dec 2023, 00:33
Jayenkai
It'd be fun to create a spreadsheet of which converted chocolate objects won't give me a migraine..!

Oy vey, Me & Jay are in the same no chocolate boat, just for different reasons.

I'm not "no chocolate", though. I DO enjoying chocolate, and will consume the smeg out of whatever I can.
I'm currently on a Riesen diet, since the local shop sells those, and they're apparently no-migraine
Nom nom nom

Mum bought a packet of little After Eight Shaped Fondants the other day, and one single one of those hit my head like crazy.

.. both dark chocolate.
One Nestle, the other August StorckKG. Very different results.
It's fun to experiment!

When ever I phone a manufacturers customer service departement, at the end of the call, I often say "Thankyou, you've been a great help, enjoy the rest of your day". When quite often they have been little to no help at all.

When they were holding the phone up to Carolyn and I was telling her it was okay to let go and move on -- that I would be okay.

I'm not okay and never will be again.

Any type of recovery software, especially software that recovers bad sectors or software like SpinRite than can recover drives that can have so much wrong with them.

Question of the Day : December 5th

What would be the benefits and drawbacks of a computerised city where everything is automated?
Tue, 05 Dec 2023, 01:42
Kuron
Electric grid, water systems, gas systems, traffic lights, are already automated for the most part. The drawback is seen when human involvement comes into play which is maintenance and repair.

Thunderstorms in Maryland could wipe out power for two weeks, two months and in one case four months. That is not counting hurricanes. Often because maintenance was not done cutting trees back from the power lines.

Question of the Day : December 6th

What is the most valuable or meaningful thing you own and why?
Wed, 06 Dec 2023, 01:25
Kuron
My self-respect. If you are meaning something tangible, it would be the remains of the cats who were cremated that I kept, along with the paw prints in clay of every cat. Otherwise, it would be my wedding ring that Carolyn gave me. White gold, black diamonds:

Question of the Day : December 8th

What habits are preventing you from achieving your goals?
Fri, 08 Dec 2023, 00:37
Pakz
I asked Bard to be sure. I saw a reflection of myself. But working harder on all of this now.

social isolation, physical inactivity, unhealthy sleep patterns, poor diet, substance abuse, negative self-talk, procrastination, excessive dependence, seeking immediate gratification, and neglecting mental health care.

Jayenkai
Goodness me, that's a long list. Honestly, that sounds like exactly the sort of scaremongering you'd find if you googled your symptoms, and discovered that the small paper cut on your finger might actually make you impotent and cause all your hair to fall out.

What stops me is the same thing that's stopped me my whole life. I just don't believe in myself. I can do all these wonderful things to a moderately mediocre standard, but I don't ever believe any of it's worthwhile. If I did, I might stick price tags on things, and then life would spiral into a whirlpool of money, and I'll soon be a bazillionaire..
...
.. But I don't. So I'm not. But I'm ok being me, and that's ok.

If you could bring one historical figure back to life to witness modern computing, who would it be and why?

Charles Babbage... I'd be like "You know that idea you had? Well it rules the world now!"

What habits are preventing you from achieving your goals?

No attention span and poor working memory.
