Socoder -> Off Topic -> What's June? : June is Teacher month!

Fri, 01 Jun 2007, 02:08
Jayenkai
June, a month full of days.
Days are about doing things.
Things can be learned.
Learning is usually done at a school.
Schools have computers.
Teachers who teach about computers usually don't know a thing about computers.
I could teach better than them.
---

Or at least, I think that's how Blanko's mind was working when he suggested it be "Be a Teacher" month.

So, this month, if you've a bit of spare time on your hands, and you've been meaning to write a tutorial about something for someone, but kept getting further and further into fiddling with the whole CSS/Themes thing*, then you've got absolutely no excuse now.

Write something (USEFUL!) and shove it in the Articles/Tutorial section.
And if you can't find a place for it, let me know what sections I should be adding.

* Note : This is a purely theoretical example!! Honest!!!

----
This post used to say
----

I'd planned to have been done with the theme stuff by now, but with this week's unorganised chaos I'm a little behind (again!)
I didn't have time to setup this month's planned "Month" thing (In fact, I didn't even realise we'd hit the end of May until this morning!), so I'm handing it over to you guys.

What's this month all about?

okay, cool.

thank you, Jay. can we write anything article.....I mean
within reason, using common sense.
also is there a limit? um...you know, how I love to write and go down rabbit holes and such. And go on and off on tangents...sometimes.

Now what to write about??
The Return of the Watchers, the deeper secrets of Pi,
a film review of the new Pirates of the Carribean movie,
metaphysical musings of the Muses and music, holistic holographic imagery, the dangers of pyschotronic warfare,
Ordered Chaos of Social and Cultural Dynamics.
among other things.

hmmmm......:/
what to write about??

|edit| okay, sorry didn't read the whole beginning post.
I'll um and yeah!!! write an article or tutorial
on computers, or some code that I did. cool!! |edit|

Yeah, right!! Like that's gonna happen!!

I've tried building up a decent set of netplay functions several thousand times, already!
It ain't gonna happen!

Um, as far as I know, there's no limit to how big a post can be.. And articles are posts, so..

BUT.. If you make it too big, it might put people off being bothered to read it. That goes doubley for you Mousey

If it gets really stupidly big, try splitting it into multiple pages, and posting each page seperately.. Then adding linkage to the previous+next articles.

doubley noted.

can I post multiple articles?
there are a few that I like to post.
Two of them at least...have to do with
Believe It or Not with 3d graphics and animations.

and yeah, I'm learning and re-learning the Lessons
of toning down my topics, posts, and replies too.
And also of subject matter and content. Certainly bring
down the Olympian wisdoms of Hera to lower bio-mass energy
forms of mankind. And bring up from the bottomless pit or the sea of abyss those dark forms
of knowledge that only the Watchers know.

yeah, I'm certainly learning about being clear and concise and revising as well.

You can post whatever articles you like, I'm not gonna start limiting them!

Is that why people haven't been posting them?

Don't be scared! Post away!

.. Just, you know.. Don't do stuff like "Llamas are nice. I like Llamas. Where to order a perfect Llama." or "Hey! I like pizza! How to get a cheaper Pizza." or "What? You can't draw!? How to decide whether you should buy your game's art or make it yourself." or other similarly stupid ideas.

um....I didn't know there was a perfect Llama.

and hey, for cheap pizza and good inexpensive
chicken wings try Little Caesar.

and about game art.....I buy el cheapo art
or download royalty free art for use. But check the copyrights and terms of use first.

yeah, Jay I know what you mean.
And what you are trying to say.

I like the idea of Mousey's article. It's not so much a tutorial, more of a "How I did XXX" type thing.
I mean, unless you end up doing trivial ones like "How I decided to draw platdude using pixels!" then I'm sure we've all got a few interesting development articles to post.

BUT.. If you could at least include a sample of the end result, it'd probably go down a little better!

I'll do a write up on my 2D rotating bounding box collision detection, if I can ever perfect the method myself.

Sorry to give you all homework.

Well, June didn't go down all that well, with only a few new articles being posted, mostly within the first few days!
No matter, let's have a better month next month.

Any suggestions on what July can be?

Tutorial:

How to pick your nose

-History*

Nose Picking is a revered art that was begun in Mesopatamia in the early years of history.

One day somebody tired of all the snot in their nose and they took it out, and whala, nose picking was born!

-How To

Insert your finger, preferably your pointer, into your nostril of choice. Then pull snot out of your nose.

Like it? funny

How about July being the "free" month. Create and donate as much as you can for free use by other people? E.g. art, code, sound fx, music?
