back down from Mount Olympus

the Spartan Soldiers journal

With otherworldly transport from time to time and conversing with Hera and a few of the other gods and goddeses....I'm finally back down to our reality or world.
While Hera has bestowed upon me supernatural knowledge, wisdom and other heavenly utterings too complex even for myself to tell you, Hermes has determined from the council of gods to deliver me the beast of the Hydra...I was given the tome of the Hydra and a guide to its lair and shown the way to the Halls of the Hydra, which is close by. The priests will help me decipher the tome and aid me in learning and conquering the Hydra.

I have received the book and as well as two 128k memory cards(game cartridges). In speaking of the book, I have read thru many chapters. Although chapter 1 is a quick start reference guide in setting up the Hydra computer and loading and running a few of the games and demos form both the supplied 128k game cartridge and as well as the pre-loaded game inside the onboard 128k EEPROM on the Hydra itself....it is also chockful full of both software and hardware information on both the Hydra and the propeller chip itself. And again, this is only chapter 1!
In the first section of chapters 1 to 12.....actually also the foreword by Steve Russell, the creator of Spacewars and also a short introduction and aptly titled Chapter 0:Introduction and a Little History of Game Development. In the remaining chapters of 2 to 12, Andre gives a quick tour and introduction from both a hardware and software approach. Though, it leans more towards the hardware and the components involved.
Various elements and components on the Hydra and one element or area specifically for a chapter. Such as: Chapter 3 the reset circuit is discussed, in Chapter 4 its about the USB serial programming port, in Chapter 7 its the Composite NTSC /PAL video hardware and a short primer on NTSC, while Chapter 6 deals about the Game controller harware and chapter 16(one of my favorites) talks about Game Cartride,EEPROM, and EXPANSION PORT hardware.
My head is still reeling with all of that knowledge and information. I haven't even scratched the surface yet.

The Spartan Soldier will keep you informed and tales of more of my adventures and explorations will be conveyed.

all hail! (the San Jose State Spartans! ),
