Arecibo

tile drawing web page

self-contained html file
Choose among 42 tiles and 8 customizable fg/bg colors to assemble an image in a fashion similar to ANSI art.

Convert your image to plain text.

Submit text to gallery or make a lengthy "play link".

Use "play link" to get PNG version of your image.

Arecibo is free software.

|edit| I was kindly asked by web-administrators to remove most of this, as it increased load on their server, and mobile java app was suspected to be a virus (i think false positive). Only the web page survived where you can draw, and perhaps copy/paste the resulting text. The former gallery is also included in that cryptic web page, which became self-contained, it includes images etc. |edit|

Latest Update

version 0.54
  • Added transparency support; included talk and gallery page to ZIP.
  • Mobile drawing app (alpha ) with gallery
  • Export to Postscript (which takes the image text and assembles tiles realtime in your printer!)
  • Site map
  • Better download page
  • Fast standalone drawing page (Opera, FF)
version 0.60 (10/14/08)
  • New drawing interface, which is both simpler and more complicated!
  • 5-6 bugs fixed
  • Gallery slightly redesigned
version -1
  • Everything down, except the drawing page.

You are evil. I spend 15 minutes making a beautiful piece of art, and then decided to try out the "modify color" tool, and my work is ruined. Besides that, nice app

It shouldn't happen. Arecibo was supposed to crash only when saving!
Please tell me:
did you use mobile or browser version?
what did you do?
what kind of mobile phone did you use?

I'd like to see what you have drawn

Browser version. I used the modify color tool, entered some values, and all tiles became black. And I also had to use Internet Explorer, because in Firefox it drew tiles regardless of whether the mouse was pressed or not. Don't know why.

Explorer: Fixed!
Firefox: Perhaps you clicked on Draw ( ) icon (click to start/stop continuous drawing)
