Socoder -> Hardware and Technology -> Windows Password Woes

Kuron goes to use his ASUS Zenbook 3 that has never been used. Sets it up, sets the password for Windows 10, confirms the password, all is fine. Goes to log in and it will not recognize the password no matter what. I know what I typed in as I use it on all systems except my Chromebook. Grr!

Thankfully can reset the whole PC, thankfully nothing was installed on it yet. Hoping the password does better this time around. Grrr. Lovely screen on it, gold lit keyboard is nice, older system but at the time it was MacBook pro quality and well worth the $1700. Dated by todays standards. Dual core 2 virtual cores, so 4 threads. Good enough for web design, and some graphics work and such and writing. 16GB RAM.

Works fine if you do NOT specify a password when you install it. WTF! Even by Microsoft standards, this is seriously messed up.

Thanks, but there is no email address on file for Windows 10 and never will be. Also you could not login (even in safe mode) and there was no option to do anything when it would not recognize the password, other than reset it, which requires a password recovery flash drive, which you could never create because you could never login in the first place.

Just the first time I have ever seen it NOT recognize the password (even though it is correct). I have used older versions of Windows 10 than what is on that system and newer versions of Windows 10 and have never run into that issue. Very odd and bad glitch as the average user would not be able to recover the system when they encounter the bug.

Yeah, that is bad. Apple is kinda on my shit list right now. Yesterday, I almost clicked buy on a M1 Air that was on sale at Amazon for $749. I was going to buy it, even though it has less memory than I would like. BUT, I decided to do a tiny bit of research and there is a major issue with screens cracking on those, as they went with a wedge design for the case. New M2 Air isn't a wedge design and isn't having screen cracking issues. Anytime I think of buying an Apple, what I am considering has an issue that keeps me from buying it.

If you aim for the M2, be sure to upgrade to the 512Gb drive, as the 256Gb is much slower due to the .. something, something..
The M1's fine at 256Gb, though, so .. that is still a really nice bit of kit, at a fairly decent price point.

My M1 hasn't had any cracking issues, but then I'm really really careful with mine since they cost a god damned pissing fortune!!

(Could've probably redone all the windows in the bungalow, with all the money I've spent on Apple stuff over the years.)

Only worry is the 8gb of ram being enough. But when there is a pending class action suit over the screens, I am too afraid to touch it.

If I can figure out how to boot the Zenbook 3 from a flash drive and disable secure boot, I may try putting PoP_OS on it. Loved the OS on the Linux lappy I had bought almost a year back, just the screen was too horrible to use.
