Wow, look how easy it would be to interface an old Amiga 500 tank mouse! There's no logic hardware, its sensors only!! Shame they're stupid money on ebay

Is that just the original, or is it true of all Amiga compatible mouses?

All, but the original 500 mouse looked better and with those flat sides, would be easy to glue things to :-p

The Amiga mouse just passes all of the raw inputs directly to the computer for processing. It's really very similar to the 8-bit world of input devices. Each pin on the connector is responsible for a different function of the mouse

xa and xb for example send the binary data from one of the wheels 10,00,01,11 to show which direction it is moving.

Even Atari mice are £30+, which is way more than I want to spend on something that I will be potentially destroying!

AmigaKit sell a "compatible" Optical mouse, which would, I imagine, have the same outputs.

Mouseclick here!

But, yeah, it's £27!! Eeek.

|update| Hmm.. |update|
.. Having said that, the connector looks a little bit chunky.
I'm wondering if, rather than building an actual "Amiga Compatible Mouse", they've instead taken a standard PC USB mouse, and shoved the "USB to Amiga" adaptor into the connector..?

The issue for those adaptors, is that they might require 5v input, I'd be wanting 3v. With an original mouse it wouldn't be an issue as it's technically just a bunch of switches.

My best be is probably just to keep an eye out at the local charity shop. Any ball mouse should work, it would just need the controller chip removed.
