I really ought to get back into the habit of drinking tea in the morning. Might make me less likely to hate everything that follows, like the 70-year-old obese shoppers at my grocery store.

Ridiculous that you'd pay that much for a few cups of tea, really. It doesn't cost that much to get a load of tea bags (or whatever form folks prefer - I just using bags of Twinings stuff).

Seriously, if you order a 20-pack of bags off Twinings site, it's $3. That's 15 cents per bag - if you assume a cost for washing the cup and any milk or sweetening, it's probably around 30 to 50 cents at most (milk is cheap, washing is easy, and any sweetening is likely going to be inexpensive if purchased bulk as these sorts of stores do), and if you reuse the cup, then that shouldn't increase much beyond a dollar for several cups of tea. I could get charging more than $1.50 but only if I were drinking upwards of seven or eight cups of the stuff.

There's probably other minor financial reasons for charging some amount, but I expect most of the cost is pulled out of someone's ass.

I should start a cafe where you don't pay out the ass for stuff.

Our local Village Tea Room was recently taken over by someone who immediately closed it down for a week, and reopened it as Ohana Coffee House.
... That hasn't gone down too well!!

Villagers like their Tea!!

I don't baulk at the cost of a cuppa while out (although it is extortionate), but what I do hate is when you pay good money for one that either tastes like gnat's piss or is cold. That really gets my fecking goat. I pay a premium while out for tea so make sure it's a fucking good cuppa.

I find it funny too in the UK how we have all these little coffee shops (And greasy spoons) with little continental styleee tables and chairs outside as if it's located in Tenerife and you see people dressed up to the eyeballs in NorthFace gear freezing their bollocks off over a brew!

I mean, I do myself try to make the best of a bad job... But, f***ing hell... What are these people thinking!

We call those hipsters. Don't make eye contact with 'em, for if you look long enough into the void...

Hipsters eh... Lol, about as hip as wearing brown cords with sandals and white socks!

no you see hipsters are cool before its cool to be cool.

typical apple fan boys/girls with little to no imagination for them selves.

one of the hipster trends is a fixie, a bike with no breaks or anything just one 'fixed' gear, no free wheeling or anything. total madness and utterly useless. "but I want to get back to the roots" yeah thats ok on retro gaming but you wouldn't start lighting a fire with two sticks and eating raw meat "because its cool" /totallywindsmeup

I'm old enough to remember that and also another trend on the BMX, back-pedal braking.

I used to know a guy who ran a restaurant. His rule of thumb was that the cost of the raw materials made out 30% of the price of the dish. By that logic, (15c per bag)/30% = 50c for a cup of tea. That's better! But that's unfortunately not how cafes work.
