That'll be a fruit bun then!

Here, the word barm has no meaning at all, bap is a tit (As in, a lovely pair of baps), Muffin is something you get in McDonalds with sausage or bacon (Prefixed with a Mc), we dont even use the word "roll" really, it's been known in shops, but, rare.

Around my way, its... Bun (Tuna mayo in a large/small bun please), Stotty (Tuna mayo in a half stotty please), baguette (Tuna mayo in a small/med/large baguette please)

On further note, in the NE, if you went to greggs and asked for a "mince pie", you would indeed get a pie that contained mince and gravy... If you asked for a "sweet mince pie", you would indeed get one of them festive little treats.

NOT LIKE BLOODY SHEFFIELD WHERE I ASKED FOR A MINCE PIE FOR MY DINNER AND GOT BACK TO THE BAIT CABIN AND IT WAS A TWATTING SWEET MINCE PIE!!! Apparently, I should've asked for a "meat pie"... MEAT PIE... How generic is that eh... Can I have a "meat pie", could mean anything, mince beef, steak, dog, the bakers cousin... Bloody stupid!

Up in't'north, Bun and Muffin are sweet, and more cupcake shaped.
Bap is savory, usually filled with a burger, or some sliced meat + cheese, or a fishcake with a great big dollop of salad cream.
A barm is a larger bap, in which you add oodles of sliced meat, cheese, and if you're into that kinda thing, some leafy salad stuff, too.

shoulda gone to 't chip 'oil!

There's another one... "oil"!!!

When I was working there (Same time as the mince pie saga), the gaffer came up and asked if I could go see a bloke in the compound, the fella was there to connect the water up to the cabins and he wanted to tap into the water service... So I went, and said "Right mate, what are you after?"

He went "The pipe is below here so can you dig oil to it"

I was like "You what?"

He went "Oil, dig oil here"

Me "Oil, what you on about?"

He went "You know, oil, as in, oil in sock"

Me "Listen mate, I havent a clue what your on about"

And then he said it "Hole, can you dig a hole here"

Me "A hole... Yeah, sure... Why didnt you say!!!"

Him "I did"

Me "No, a hole is a hole, oil is something you dont get in socks and instead put in cars"

Then there was the afterbird... Last orders where I come from is called a "stoppy back", in Sheffield, it's an "afterbird"... I was rough one morning and this said to this lad "Yeah, we had a stoppy back lastnight, wish I'd just gone to bed"... He was like "Stop-pee-back", and started laughing... I said "What you laughing at?", "Stop-pee-back"... I said well it is, last orders called, extra drinks, you stop back... Simple! So I asked him what did they call it, he said "Afterbird"... I said "So what the fuck does that mean?"

He didnt know!

Anyway, I quite enjoyed working down there, and little did I know at the time Dave was tucked up in front of a PC just around the corner from where our site was, all warm and snug while I was getting pissed on by the weather swimming in lakes and lakes of concrete!
