Socoder -> Off Topic -> Coding Slumps

Just need to let something be known, some of you may be aware that I'm a little quiet on here lately. Been having a lot of mental health stuffs going on and coder's block has manifested as one of the side effects. I'm still tinkering with stuff though, been arsing around with an Arduino UNO over the past few days in order to keep my brain going.

Not to worry. You don't have to code to be part of our community. I don't think this forum's been entirely Code-centric for a long long time. We're all getting old, and ranty, and .. Whatever goes, really. (Just .. not Political crap!)

.. But do post about your Arduino stuff. I'd love to hear more about that.

We all (well, most of us, other than super-roboJay ) go through slumps from time to time.

At the end of the day though, they don't matter. Your own health is far more important than coding anything.

Once you are well mentally and feeling better, you'll probably find that your missing mojo will miraculously return. Or it will just take one image, one thought, one sound, one post on a forum or social media site for something to make you want to pound that keyboarrd again.

Don't force it, just go and do something else instead - perhaps play a game (or three), rather than make one.

Hope you feel better soon

I attended my second group therapy session today, got another 6 sessions to go, it's an art group that's been set up by the mental heath team. I find it rather boring though, I'm the only male in the group, I have nothing in common with any of them as far as I can tell, I can't draw to save my life and above all it's quite literally like watching paint dry, excuse the pun!... I'm not sure if my brain can take another 6 sessions, it's supposed to be helping me relax not bore me to destruction, why can't the mental health service come to realise that a computer/electronics geek needs what he or she craves!

Hi Steve, stick with it mate. My son has been through a similar path with CBT, although his issue was he was 17, as good as an adult and put in a group of teenagers who were suffering similar but milder versions of what he was going thru. Get to the end of the CBT sessions and you'll be displaying a need for more investigation should you need it. Like Jay says, art is about your interprtation of things, hope you feel better soon.

Happy coding!

@zzoom: Thanks for the advice.

@Jay: I never thought of CPC pixel blocks, I hope they have graph paper.

Looks like the car is screwed more than I think, I'm not wasting anymore time or money on it. Time for a replacement.
