Mother in law has bought a new phone. On contract.... doesn't know how much she's paying or what's included. You've got to laugh.

lol... Awwwww thats nowt... My mam had a phone, for ages, facebook on, email, all that...

She seemed to get on well with it. Anyway, she got an upgrade, and brought her new phone around to setup... So I obliged, and asked her for a login details for the various things she uses... She give me a piece of paper with three lines of writing on.

They were passwords, so I asked her, whats her usernames or emails she uses with her passwords... She started pointing at the passwords...

And then, and this took some doing mind, believe it or not, I had to explain to her that to use a password it's got to be used with a username/email... Its no good punching in a password and just expecting the site/app to instantly know that its her... The app/site needs to know its her with her username...

I was on for ages!

We've established she's got 500mb of data. We've tried explaining how 'smartphones' use date all the time - even when your phone is just sat on the sofa arm and she's now in a blind panic that she's going to get a big fuckoff phone bill.

She doesn't even use Facebook, email, internet or owt! Seems people have been telling her her old phones shit, so she's bought a new un to shut em up, seemingly without knowing or caring what she's actually getting.

£9/month for 2 fucking years, tho. For a phone that does a ton of shit she doesn't even need. Who does that? WHO?!

I know, it's disgusting!

How long has she had it, if she's still in the cooling off period, get her to take it back, she may be better buying a PAYG phone (Or keep her old one), with something like GiffGaff, they do 3gig, 500mins, unlimted text for a tenner... And if she doesnt use it, she can change it anytime to a lower plan.

Yeah 2 week cooling off period she said... but then she's got her dopey old neighbour going 'ooo you're stuck with it now'!

She can get a Nokia 105 that'll make calls and texts which is ALL she wants it to do - five quid to buy the phone outright. If she wants a camera too, £49 for a 3310. I'm on giffgaff - their £7.50 tarriff will do her.

Just listened to too many people going "ooo you want this... ooo you need that".

I’m on Three PAYG.
When I bought my Lumia 1020 (June 2014), I put £10 on the thing.
I’ve since upgraded to an iPhone SE, but am using the same sim card, and have yet to add any additional funds.

£3.52 remaining.

And surprisingly, they haven’t yet cut me off due to lack of use!!

If she's not a phone user, that’d be my recommended PAYG network to go with.

3,2,1 prices. 3p per minute, 2p per text, 1p per megabyte.. .. shows how much I fucking use it, other than at home as a WiFi thing!

In darkest Lincolnshire, Three coverage is non-existent. O2/GiffGaff is the best/only option round these parts.

That’s a shame.
O2s mostly ok on contract. Mums on there. £10 a month for a decent amount that she'll never use!
She does get frustrated by the constant (more or less monthly) calls from O2,asking her to upgrade her minutes and texts, though.

shit son! 500mb limit... what a rip!

On the plus side, she is unlikely to get a huge bill - generally bandwidth is just throttled or the darta is turned off when you run out.
