Planned Outages

Server's whinging that it needs a restart.
I'll be doing that at some point tonight, so if you come by and the site's down, that's why.
Don't panic.
It's only a reboot.

Reboots usually take about 2 or 3 minutes, tops, so the chances of you visiting whilst the site's down, is fairly minimal, but just in case..

If you've read this previous to then, then you'll know why it's down, and you shouldn't need to panic.
If you haven't yet read this, but visit a dead site, then you'll probably bombard my twitter/facebook/email with messages that the site's down. You don't need to do that, but since you can't read this, I'll let you off.

If you need something to comfort you during the downtime, consider looking at the product of my recent Testcard Generator, whilst whistling some 70s jazz.
The site will return.

Hopefully the server hasn't decided to install PHP8 and fuck everything up..
.. Dear god, I hope that's not why it wants a reboot...

Oh gosh, it's up to version 8.0 already! Best look at the change log, depreciated functions, etc then.... eep!

Hmmm. Emailer isn't working, for watched topics , forgotten passwords, registrations and the like.

Not sure when that happened..
Will have to dig deep!!

Finally got the emailer working. (I think!)

One issue was that the domain didn't have a mail-linkback for email security testing..
TXT @ v=spf1 ip4:IP Address Goes Here ~all

The bigger issue was both default sendmail and PHPMailer's standard settings seem to send any kind of whatever the hell mail they want, and Gmail was going "This IPv6 setup looks a bit screwy" because I haven't even begun to look at IPV6 stuff.

Tweak PHPMailer's config slightly, to force it to ONLY use ipv4. ("inet_protocols = ipv4" in the postfix/main.cf file)

By forcing PHPMailer to be IPV4 ONLY, you can bypass the IPV6 check.
.. For now.

No doubt Google will force you to IPV6 up things, (in the next fucking week or so, given my recent experiences) so it'll all fuck right up again, and I'll have to look into getting the IPV6 stuff up and running.
Bah.
