On MacOS, I've switched to using Amadeus Pro. It's a lovely piece of software, once you get over the fact that the app window doesn't half half as much onscreen content as CoolEdit Pro did!
Everything's menu based, instead.
But it all appears to be there, once you find it.

If you need it, use an older version

Yeah, fuck that telemetry bullshit, I know I'm going to have to migrate away from windows 7 at some point sadly, likely over to linux and maybe net / open BSD are on my shortlist.

It's just a claim. Don't get me wrong I think all these programs spy on people, especially things that you choose to allow scan your entire computer, ex. malwarebytes, spybot, even windows defender. But where is this guys proof? Did he mention evidence in that video?

This is also why I keep all old off line installers for programs that I use, and turn off automatic updates if possible.

If Audacity is in fact watching peoples web traffic, it's possibly due to someone like youtube wondering who might be recording audio from them. Who knows? Who cares?

If people don't want to get in trouble, don't do anything dumb, or just don't get caught.

If people are worried about data leaks, become Amish, and don't get online.

I updated to a newer version of Audacity a couple of months ago... nothing but issues and hardly use it now.

Sounds like around the same time they changed software makers, maybe use an older version or, as was mentioned in the video, wait for a forked version.

The thing that put me off using Audacity was that when you hit Ctrl+S, it doesn't save the damn .wav file back to where it was.
It instead opens a dialogue to let you save "The audacity format project" somewhere.
God damn, that was so fucking frustrating!!!

Yeah, Audacity isn't a great program by any means. Just sorta convenient but I've found that it's more trouble than it's worth for the most part. I only use it for 2 or 3 processes and use other better programs for the rest of my music producing.
