Apple TV+ Recommendations

Felt like I needed a new Sitcom to watch, and also figured I might as well watch something on Apple TV+ that isn't Fraggle Rock. (But, roll on the 21st, so I can dance my cares away!)

At first I started off with Dickinson. I was hoping that, since the show is set in the 1800s, and is meant to be focussed on the life of Emily Dickinson, the poet, that it might end up being somewhat abnormal. Just the sort of sitcom I like.
But, no..
It turned into a generic teen drama after the first couple of episodes.. Or rather, Episode 3 was "Parents go away for the night, kids have a house party", and my head went "Oh, for fuck's sake.."

I carried on flicking through the listings and found this..

2 episodes in, enjoyable, but you DEFINITELY need to be able to enjoy musical numbers in your content!!!
Will I continue to enjoy the show as it goes on?
Who knows...

Currently watching a show called Invasion.
Bit slow, but is at least managing to keep my attention.
There'd better be a pay-off!

There was a show called Invasion many years ago - if it contains glowing alien stingray fish type things in a Florida type location give it up now!

It's a worldwide invasion thing. American, primarily, but also Japanese, British and an American war troop in Afghanistan.
Ended up bingeing 6 episodes, last night, and it was enjoyable enough until episode 6, which suddenly transformed into a horror-vibe.
You know that bit in the Tom Cruise WOTW movie, where he and his daughter are trapped in a house with the other guy, then the alien shows up and you get 10 minutes of shippable silence where they're silently being silent so the alien doesn't hear them...
... episode 6 is pretty much that, for the entire hour.

I don't mind suspense/thriller stuff, but.. MAaaan, it dragged on..
Five or ten minutes, then hop on to the next thing.. not the entire flipping episode.

Other than that, though, it's been alright, and I did enjoy it up to there.
I'll likely watch episode 7 later, and .. hopefully that's back to "normal" storylines, otherwise if it's more of the same, I might give up.

That Tom Cruise WOTW was shite. I wasted good money to see that at the cinema BITD.

I dunno, I enjoyed it.
Man runs, freaks out, runs some more, rinse repeat.
Adding "and has to protect his kids" made the story a little different from the novels, but I was alright with that change.

I get that people were super pissed about the "and then they died, 'cos germs" ending, but .. that's kinda what makes WOTW what it is.

But then, I'm also ok with the Enterprise finale, and tons of folk hated that, too!

The ending wasn't my issue TBH

It was Cruise and co's totally wooden acting that left me cold and the fact that I just didn't like or feel any empathy to them; they didn't bond or gel as a family. It also lacked any real tension or feeling of dread - it was like the whole human race sort of sighed and then went "Oh well. Aliens."

The Tim Robbins bit was perhaps the only point in the film where there was any tension.

It was watchable, and there were some great set pieces and sfx, but both me and the missus thought it was pants. IMDB gives it 6.5/10, Rotten Tomatoes gives it 75% with an audience score of 42%. So yeah, definitely not great figures.

Each to their own though.

I can't even remember Enterprise's ending tbh. I remember being disappointed with Voyager's ending though.
