Heavy wooden chairs pushed back on a tiled floor makes an awful screech / scrape I hate, even more so as it will usually be in an eating place with added echo.

Skip the queues and spend more than five seconds in front of the Queen's coffin!

LOL!

I can't answer this one without getting somewhat depressed about sitting in the corner of the room all day and I may as well be invisible and bah, humbug, and grr and.. yeah.. :/

It would be fun to scare the shit out of some librarian by opening card drawers (I bet these don't even exist nowadays ) and stacking books...

Whoever wrote the Amstrad CPC 6128 manual!!

-=-=-

Story time

Multiplying positive and negative numbers.
In primary school we were taught "if the signs are the same, it's positive, if the signs are different it's negative."
Simple.

In secondary school, the teaching method was about remembering "positive and positive is positive. Positive and negative is negative. Negative and negative is positive. Negative and positive is negative."
I remember one particular lesson... the teacher writing this crap for the umpteenth time on the board, and all the other students repeating the completely shit chant...
I'd had enough..
I put my hand up, and said "is it not just.. if the signs are the same it's positive. If the signs are different it's negative....?"

He literally stared at the blackboard for about a minute, double checking my obscure nonsensical claim..

After that, he kept bringing up my "unique" observation, as a handy tip.
I found this quite quite bizarre, and often think about this when people suggest how effective the National Curriculum is, because.. quite clearly, the Primary and Secondary teachers were teaching (and learning) drastically different things.
