Just thoughts. Daily spike dislike. Could you make a special version just for us here on socoder. You know me, looking at gamification like would you rather... so the special version would be a button to open the game. You get three goes and you submit your best score which gets recorded back here. Ideally, give winners the points, eg: first place best scorer of the day gets 10 points, 2nd 7 points, 3rd 5 points and everyone else 3 points. Tally up totals for last 30 days for short term glory ;-p ok, I'm probably dreaming, but that or something like it would be a nice way to use your daily spike dislike.

Ultimately, this us the Jay site. You make it happen and you make it a nice place to hang out.

Personally, I don't see a problem with that. I don't know what everyone else thinks?

The poll is kind of fun but I like the idea of the game with a challenge each day and spike seems a good fit to me.

Besides, who else is going to do it? Well maybe if you start the ball rolling and provide a simple framework for connecting to the site, maybe we'll get the odd other game submitted by others?

You can Play "So Dislike" here if you're logged in at SoCoder.net, or or here if you're logged into SoCoder.com!.

Play as you normally would.
It *should* record your first three scores, and upload them to the server, and we oughta all be golden!

I don't 100% trust my server-side stuff yet, so I haven't yet written an output, but it should at least be recording your scores.
If you all give it a play, I can check my server-side code, and we'll see how it goes tomorrow!

572 was my highest of the first 3 scores. On the .net link.

Edit... played a second time and got 582. If you see that score uploaded you know something has gone wrong.

Records show you scored 18, 572, then 315
Spinal played it yesterday and got 9, 36, then 306
Seems to be recording well enough, so today I'll see about making some kind of scoreboard or something.

Q: Do I rank based on the average of three plays, or the best of three plays?

OK, I think that's working. I went for the average, btw.

Play the game, and watch the scores tot up, then tell me if anything's buggered up along the way.

Oo average, that's mean hehe

If you score 1000 then 0 and 0, and you are not counting zeros, won't that skew rather scores?

Ie:

1000,0,0 = 1000 average
1000,10,10 = 340 average

So I could get an advantage if I score well on my first go and not play again that day!

I would say best score is fairer... you get three chances to make your mark on the scoreboard.

The score collector only records scores above 0.
Any 0's don't count towards your average.

If you get 1000,0,0 then your average is 1000
If you get 1000,1,1 then it's your own silly fault, and your average will suffer

And, yes, rskgames is quite a good player

1000,0,0 is not fair though, right? I mean if you are going to do the average, which changes the game scoring, you should have to submit three valid scores, otherwise your entry is not equal, and perhaps no scores should count if incomplete?

I was thinking it's more of a Risk/Reward thing. Dare you try to beat your first score?
Isn't that kinda the main draw of SpikeDislike?

3 options, as far as I can see.
1. Best of 3
2. Average of 3
3. Total of 3

Which of those feels "right"?

#1 is my preference as I've mentioned.

#2 is just odd to me unless it's consistent

#3 interesting idea

I guess I'm too used to Daley Thompsons decathlon so #1 feels right.

Edit, I should add that I was thinking with three goes, you don't have to play all at once. You could set your first score and wait to see how others do during the day and try to beat it later, as long as you get in before the time is up
