Mind Poke - January 2023

This Month's Words

Misdemeanants
Ruddling
Candlepower
Despotism
Belowdecks
Indigences
Outwears
Ginsengs
All words taken from Foldapuz
We didn't have a MindPoke last month, so there aren't any suggested words.

Your Task

You have until the end of the month to do something creative using the words above.
You can do anything you'd like. Draw a picture, take a photo, write a poem, make a game, compose a tune, film a video.
Literally anything, as long as it's creative (and as Safe-For-Work as is possible!)
Be creative, and add it to the thread of creativity.

Be as inspired as you can from the list of words.
You may use as few or as many of the words as you'd like, within your creativity, and can post as many things as you wish throughout the month.
There are an additional set of ideas, below, automatically generated from the list of words, which may or may not provide additional inspiration.

Let the Mind Poke inspire you.

When you post anything creative to the thread, be sure to leave an inspirational word, which will be gathered and used for next month's Mind Poke.

Will there be voting, and a "Winner"? Possibly. But only if YOU make it worthwhile, by showing your creativity.

Open AI Generated Videogame Idea 1

In the game, players take on the role of a group of misdemeanants who have been falsely accused of a crime and thrown into a high-security prison.
The prison is run by a tyrannical warden who rules with an iron fist, practicing despotism and mistreating the inmates. The players must navigate the dangerous and corrupt prison system, avoid ruddling with the other inmates, and find a way to escape.
As they explore the prison, the players will need to use their cunning and resourcefulness to overcome challenges and gather supplies. They will search belowdecks for hidden items, such as candles for candlepower, and gather ginsengs to heal their injuries.
The players will also encounter other prisoners who are struggling with indigences and are desperate to escape. They must decide whether to help these fellow inmates or focus on their own survival.
As they make their way through the prison, the players will need to outwear the dangers and challenges that stand in their way. Will they be able to escape and clear their names, or will they succumb to the harsh realities of prison life?

Open AI Generated Videogame Idea 2

In the year 20XX, the city of Ruddling is ruled by a tyrannical despot who enforces strict laws on the population. The player takes on the role of a group of misdemeanants who are fed up with the oppressive regime and decide to take matters into their own hands.
As they plot to overthrow the despot, the player must navigate the city's seedy underworld and gather resources and allies. They will need to sneak belowdecks on ships, scrounge for indigences in back alleys, and outwear their enemies in fierce battles.
The player can use the candlepower of their trusty lantern to light their way through dark corridors and underground tunnels. They can also collect rare ginsengs to boost their strength and heal their wounds.
As they draw closer to the despot's stronghold, the player will face increasingly difficult challenges and fearsome bosses. Will they be able to bring down the despot and restore freedom to Ruddling?

Open AI Generated Videogame Idea 3

In the game, players take on the role of a group of misdemeanants who are trying to overthrow the despotic ruler of their kingdom. The ruler, known as the Ruddling, has been hoarding all the ginsengs, a valuable and rare herb believed to have medicinal properties, for himself and his allies.
As the player progresses through the game, they must navigate through various challenges and obstacles, including sneaking belowdecks on the Ruddling's ship and avoiding being caught by his guards. Along the way, they will encounter other characters struggling with indigence and looking for a way to fight back against the Ruddling's oppressive rule.
As the player progresses, they will collect candlepower, a magical substance that allows them to wield powerful abilities and defeat the Ruddling's minions. Eventually, the player will face off against the Ruddling himself in a final showdown. If they are able to defeat him and restore balance to the kingdom, they will be hailed as heroes and praised for their bravery and determination in standing up against despotism.

(Attempts another NES game in January )

Something something Criminals, something something limited light source, on a pirate ship.

You are a sailor aboard a pirate ship, light fuses and gather rum (fuel) to launch barrels into the incoming enemy pirates.

Fight them off above and below decks simultaneously but don't get captured by the burly crew or it's off the plank with you!

Rough screeny draft below.

Thinking about what can be added to make the gameplay advance, possibly with explosive barrels blowing up holes in the top deck, drunken pirates stagggering left to right to avoid barrels, explosive barrels only being on the top deck so you can't just cheaply dunk em all into the water. I still need to finish off Novembers game (and hidden secret game) though!!!

Rats. Gotta have rats to get in the way or cause other mischief.
Captain's parrot for a risk/reward type element.
Spooks that blow out lit fuses?

Good call! Rats could scurry across left to right, probably wouldn't need many sprite tiles either! I'm going to be busy throughout January by the looks of things, thanks for the ideas!

@Rychan - Had a few more ideas/suggestions for Double Decks

- Siren Song - Mermaids' cause confusion and reverse the player controls
- Kracken Attack - Your ship gets all shaken up, causing the treasures to move to random positions
- Thunderstorm - the screen flickers between visible and total darkness
- Icestorm - everything slows down

I'll see what can be done

Got some sprites and background tiles prepared today.

The Logo takes up a shed load of tiles already! Also, yeah, having treasure appear could be cool also

Yarrr, to be sure, tis all the area I be allowed but 512 tiles of 8, 256 for Background and 256 for Sprites.

That Nintendo System can handle a booty of 4 palettes with 3 colours for sprites and palettes of 4 colours for backgrounds me hearties, these limits be what both aids and erks me.
