Google Bard

Hope whoever came up with the name at Google got a nice bonus. Anyone signed up and got in yet? Sparkes from the old RR crew is in after 6 hours. I'm still waiting. Hopefully less restrictive than Bing chat.

Still waiting for this! Must be a really long waitlist! Maybe they should get Bing to help them with that?

Still waiting also. I did get Bing in skype today. There's no limit on that.

I tried to get it to write a Vic 20 basic program to bounce a ball around the screen. It kind of got there, although not without lots of problems and corrections to make.

- It seemed to easily change between things relevant to the C64, or expanded v unexpanded vic 20 when referring to the screen address.

- Onetime it introduces a while - wend loop which are commands that the Vic does not have.

- It really didn't cope when I asked it to add 10 bouncing balls with an array for the x,y, dx and dy variables. Did some weird stuff at that point.

Overall I think my Vic 20 coding future is safe for the time being. It is a long way off "Make me a game xyz"

I just tried getting Bard to do a quick and simple "Cut a spritesheet into 9 sprites and display them at random positions on a WebGL canvas" request. The results were horrifically bad. None of the examples would run, the language skipped out TONS of important stuff, and it just did NOT work at all.
I think I've already given up with Bard!!

Just got the invite approved. First go at writing a basic program for the vic has so much wrong with it I can't figure out where to start explaining.

Once upon a time, there was a lovely little sausage named Baldrick.

And what happened to baldrick?

Baldrick lived happily ever after with his family and friends in the sausage kingdom.

Meanwhile, over at Bing..

Can you write a short 100 word fairytale style story about a lovely little sausage named Baldrick?

Here is a short story I wrote based on web search results:

Once upon a time, there was a lovely little sausage named Baldrick. He lived in a butcher’s shop with his friends, but he dreamed of seeing the world. One day, he decided to escape from the shop and go on an adventure. He rolled out of the window and landed on a busy street. He saw many wonderful things: cars, buses, shops, people, and animals. He was having so much fun that he didn’t notice a hungry dog following him. The dog chased Baldrick into a park, where he found himself cornered by a pond. Baldrick was scared and wished he had stayed in the shop. But then he saw a beautiful swan swimming in the water. The swan saw Baldrick and felt sorry for him. She swam over to him and offered to take him across the pond to safety. Baldrick gratefully accepted and climbed on her back. As they crossed the pond, Baldrick felt a strange sensation. He looked at himself and realized he was changing. He was growing feathers, wings, and a beak. He had turned into a swan! The swan told him that this was a magic pond that granted wishes. She said that she used to be a girl who wished to be free from her cruel stepmother. Baldrick realized that he had wished to see the world and be happy. He thanked the swan for saving him and asked her to be his friend. She agreed and they flew away together, living happily ever after.

That's great. Could you create a cover for a book with Baldrick's story in it?

I'll try to create that

.. At this point, BingChat activated an internal DallE based art generator, and generated a selection of four pictures of books, but none of them were related to the sausage, because it had requested "a cover of a book of Baldrick's story", and the art generator had no knowledge of the story being about a lovely little sausage, so...
