Hello World

          Cower bitched at me, last week, for being too lazy
          to take longer doing this than I usually do, so
          I've allocated myself the afternoon to do the
          newsletter, which gives me a good 4 hours to get it
          all done.
          The PC's switched on, but only for the purpose of
          uploading the game screenshots, because I can't be
          arsed fucking about with half-a-dozen FTP programs,
          trying to decide which one actually works right.
          (See "Which screen recorder actually works right"
          and "Which FolderSync actually works right" for
          further details.)

          Took me sodding YEARS to find a good one on the PC,
          then they damn well switched it from Freeware to
          Pay-for. Damnit..

          Apologies for any obscure words that might appear
          in this week's newsletter. TextEdit appears to be
          "fixing" my misspelled words.
          I caught it changing a few things that weren't
          wrong, so.. you know.. if it seems odd, assume the
          Mac did it!

          I'll have a hunt for that setting later, and turn
          it the hell off.

     In the Shoutbox..

Pay to Read

          Noel Cower
          A news site, the North Country Gazette, is planning
          on suing people who view more than one article for
          free on its website. Essentially, if you do not
          pay, they will collect your IP and attempt to
          mass-sue people.

Minirant

          No, Mac, I told you 1700 times. MP3s open in VLC.
          It loads in half-a-second, as opposed to the
          half-a-minute that iTunes takes!

Loading BMPs

          Spinal's going crazy with all these silly file
          formats that all appear to be called BMP files!

How to code Atomino

          Spinal then asked a question in the shoutbox that I
          could never manage to answer within the same space!
socoder.net/?topic=2120

How to read

          Afr0's trying to decipher a horrible chaotic
          mishmash of XML-esque code, that just plain looks
          horrible.

          Hotshot's not sure which is better. What do you

          ProgrammersNotepad used to highlight my
          Newsletter's .ini file nicely, with Sections in
          blue, and titles in green, so that I could happily
          skip back and forth to whichever little bit I was
          currently focusing on.
          In TextEdit, TextWrangler and Dashcode on the Mac,
          it's just a big wall of text.

     @Jayenkai
          Q: How often do you find yourself buying a complete
          new PC?

     @mcmuttons
          Currently, I'm speccing one out. About 4.5 years
          since last time.

     @lorddevlin
          almost never - all my gear is either frankenstein
          or resurrected dead stuff from others

     @sbutterworth
          every three years

     @Sokurah
          Usually I only upgrade my PC, but a new one every
          3-4 years sounds about right.

     @deps81
          very rarely Last time was 2 years ago. And it was a
          mac. We plan to buy a new one in a not too distant
          future. A PC. With muscles.

     @NamoDynamicite
          Not often. If something goes haywire in my PC, I
          just replace that one part. I bet Mac users wish
          they could do that. x3

          No, "Magic" Mouse.. My hand moving from the top of
          the mouse was NOT me pinching, and certainly wasn't
