I'll just leave this here:

Ouya!

True, but what they are primarily sold / marketed as affects their sales. The Pi is marketed as an affordable computer for programming and stuff, whereas this OUYA is marketed as a games console. While each could be used for the other as you say, their int*snip*

But the Pi isn't really a games console. ;) (you could use it for playing games, but that's not its primary function)

Higgs Boson found?
The difference being, in the case of the Higgs, that they were right all along so *nothing has changed*
Yes, but they didn't know that nothing would have changed until after they did the experiment, did they? That's why this result i*snip*

Higgs Boson found?

They used to think that atoms were a ball of mass, like a plum pudding, but then they fired some particles at thin sheets of foil to watch how they scattered, and they scattered completely differently to how they expected they would.

Higgs Boson found?

Eyesight isn't the only way to observe things though. ;) They observed it when determining its true nature, but they couldn't see it. :P

Higgs Boson found?

9th July 2012

To check that things behave as though it exists is to check if it exists though... It is true that you can make predictions based on a hypothesis to see if they fit, but sooner or later you have to actually find some evidence for that hypothesis, which is *snip*
You take your best guess and you build on it until you get contradictory results. There is no such thing as an absolute fact in science, only things that have not been wrong yet.
Exactly. You take a guess and test it. You can't just *snip*

But that's not how science works. You can't just assume that because nothing has contradicted your theory yet means that it must be true!

Higgs Boson found?

8th July 2012

Yeah, basically what Dabz said: it's exciting because it proves (more or less) the Standard Model we've been using for decades. We can't just use predictions like the SM without first having good evidence for them, because widely accepted scientific theori*snip*

Great to know you're feeling better! :) So should that thing fix it forever, then?

If you use HTML file inputs with PHP, are they uploaded to a temporary folder and deleted when the script finishes, or do they remain? I assume that doesn't suffer from the same issue, or does it?

Once it's fixed, any chance of explaining what it was / how it worked, from an educational standpoint?

Was gonna do a blog post about all my exploits of the last 6 months at some point, but I think I'll leave it til after exams.
Currently working on exams, preparing for exams, or procrastinating from exams. At this very moment, procrastinating from exams.

If you want to make games with C++ you'll need libraries - do the libraries not depend on platform, or am I mistaken?

Exams and Mechanics

I did M1 last year, but I had some friends who did it today. My exams don't start for another 2 weeks, although for my first set of exams I have 3 maths modules on the same day. D: Dargh!

IE whinging

7th May 2012

I haven't investigated it much since it wasn't an urgent issue at the time, but I think it's something to do with IE not updating some list it has of elements on the page (although as I said I haven't researched it much, so that might be wrong). There will*snip*

IE whinging

The problem I was having here is that IE doesn't like submitting form fields dynamically generated with jQuery, whereas every other browser does. Works in compatibility mode though.
