Are you sure that price is right for installing the flooring? Here in the UK carpeters/flooring fitters will do a whole house for less than £200 (250 Euros). Have you got a Trust A Trader type site where you are? Go there - get quotes from genuine pros. I bet you'll find a cheaper price.

The flat looks great BTW

I have not spend a lot of time looking around for solo carpeters prices, only ones with the flooring included. But from what I had been finding is that the minimum prices all seem to be, quite pricy. The 250 could be correct, but from what I understood this would be double since there was also that insulation layer. The prices I looked at were at 10 euro per distanced meter and startup and various costs. The schedules are also rather difficult with the overheated market.

The handy man that is going to fix 2 electric sockets and a doorbell and glue a door asked 250 euro's, as well as was a regular insured moving company for a small number of larger items.

Our politicians have messed up the housing situation here. It gotten so bad that they now have promised to build 1 million homes in the next 10 years. Meaning there is a shortage of material and workforce and inflated prices and delays. A number of handymen had turned me down because of full schedules.

I have seen a number of people mention it is a goldmine here for people doing this housing kind of work right now.

The carpet tiles came in today. 400Kg of those tiles in packs of 10 stacked up on a pallet. I was able to get them upstairs within the hour. The truck was there early, so I was able to move most of the last of the small stuff from the old flat during the rest of the day.

Tomorrow the first inspection were I will hear what needs to be done. The doors after 20 years are not in good shape(yellowing) Cleaning them does not really help and that damages(d) the paint. I hope they wil not expect me to get them back into good as new shape.

edit: oh, and my second day in the flat with Internet there, I got my first offer for a music publishing contract from a artist manager. Seems that spending a lot of hours trying to get better is paying off.

House inspector jusrt visited to see what needed to be done. In the beginning it looked like I would have to spend and do a lot. Even paint the walls of most of the flat and paint the doors and pay for a replacement door. After about 15 minutes he noticed I was in a leniency category.(I lived there for 20 years) Slowly he started checking, I only need to remove my stuff and broom the floor. Even the vynil can stay. They are even going to clean the flat for me.

The total cost if I left it like it was now would have been 2200 euro's.

I just emailed the handy man that I won't be needing him anymore.

I had tried to communicate with the movers but they seem not to respond. I had gotten a phone number for movers that were said to be cheap. They are a kind of reintegration or provision of work company that are connected to the city. The first phase went allright. They came by to do a inventory. Then I did not hear from them until I called myself. They do not respond to email and I sometimes get voicemail when I call.

I was supposed to have gotten a email and if not I would need to call today. I called and got the voicemail again. Then I decided to scrap them and I bought a "bale truck" if the translation is correct. We call them "steekwagens" I got the type with special wheels that can be used to get heavy stuff up and down stairs.

So I spend most of the day going to and from my flat transporting the stuff the movers would've done. I decided I am not going to try and get the washing machine and 2 seater sofa up the stairs. My mother is calling a recycle/2nd hand company and they wil pick them up for free.

Tomorrow I wil probably feel broken so restday!

I have some stuff left that needs to be moved. I think I can do that sunday. After I just took a break and got up to take a walk I felt broken already. I think I only spend 5 hours today moving.

The lack of communication with the movers took 2 weeks before I decided to do it myself.

I was lucky that I have stayed in shape. Before I did regular exercises I would have been out of service for weeks with a injury by now.

Nice thing is that I might have 5000 euro's left of the moving compensation when all is done. Not sure what to do with that money yet. Good to have a large financial buffer.

Keep it for a rainy day. You never know what odd thing might crop up in the new flat.

I just had the last inspection by the inspector at the old place. Everything was in order. They are changing the locks right now.

Thing is, with moving I discovered that in homes were people live below, you are legally supposed to insulate the floors. For 20+ years I could hear my upper neighbour(s) every little sound. If I would have checked if this insulation was present it could have saved me a lot of trouble. The sound quality on the outside where I live now is a class better also.
