I did a pathfinding thing a while ago. It floodfilled the map from the player position with increasing numbers. This way a lot of enemies can find the player by just going towards the lower numbers until they reach the player. Handles trees to. No need for a* or things like that.

Here is a flash example of it and the code on the page :

A few weeks ago, I recreated the JNKPlat "Closure" tune, but held it back for the new edition of JNKPlat I was making.
Unfortunately, progress on that has pretty much stalled.
It's my birthday on Tuesday, and I can't think of any better reason to release the tune, AL has decided to release the tune specially for my birthday!
Awww, he's so thoughtful!

After last week's rubbish sliding block puzzle, I decided to attempt a game genre that I've never actually attempted, before..

It's a little simplistic, but the difficulty seems to work well enough.

Game will be playable on Tuesday!

Is it Tuesday, already?!
No?!
Hmm..

Download and try it out
Let me know if you see anything broken!!

Game will probably stay at that point, as I move on to the next project!

- Jump
- Punch/Kick

Still waiting for that pool game

Hmm.. Yeah, I should probably get back to that...
I got up to the point where I was adding rules, like "if aiming for X but hit Y but pot X." And it all became rather drawn out and boring!!!

Hmmm..
So, I started a game a couple of weeks ago.
The plan was to make an Arcade-styled Tower Defence game.
First I got Turret Upgrades working, and a nice Controller-based menu system.
Then I got a nice scrolling landscape, added spawning enemies, and all seemed .... .. Wrong..
The game was too frantic, all over the screen.
I scaled back.
And scaled back further.
And then some more..

I made the project a two-week one, to give myself time to fix the issues I was having, but ultimately, the game's flaws were at a foundation level, and no amount of tweaking could rescue it.
I gave up, yesterday.

This is the game, as it currently stands, if you'd like to try it and go "Yeah, that doesn't work!"

...

Instead, this week I'm going to go the "Unplanned oddity" route, which seems to work so much better in the world of AGameAWeek, and so far it's proving to be...
.. odd!!

It's a fun enough concept, and I do find myself stupidly amused, watching the little bugs as they carry along on their way...

But quite where to take it from here, I'm not sure...
Hmmm...

After a short discussion about Picross, and how the "FREE!" Zelda edition on the Nintendo eShop only has 42 puzzles, I decided to give it a whirl.

The engine's up and running, already, and I'm now going to go through all my Platdude Pixelarts, trying to make little puzzles from as many as I can.

Yikes!!

Hold on... Is Picross just the same as my logic battleships game?

Like, the tiles are hidden and you have to find each one by using the numbers on the side of the grid?

Or is there more too Picross?

Don't know about Logic Battleship, but you've pretty much summed up Picross.

Picross

The numbers on the left and top tell you approximately how many tiles are together on that row.
It's up to you to figure out where those are, by working out the logical patterns between the vertical and horizontal rows.

Currently going through a bunch of Platdude Pixelarts, finding an appropriate shape, and making small 8x8 puzzle shapes out of them.

I've been doing this for about 3 hours, so far..

.. MY EYES!!!!!!

1024x1024 spritesheet, 72x64 pixels each = 224 of the damned things..

Yep, I'm going to add a super-fast timer, too.
It'll be fast-paced PlatCross action!

Fuck me, that went quick..
Just shows.. When you don't watch Deal or No Deal and Countdown, and instead buckle down on your coding, you can achieve wonderful things!!!

Game is now about 95% done.
I need to add some sort of tutorial to the thing.

One day, I shall return to the pool.
In the meantime, this week's game is "8-bit Boulders", which kinda looks a bit like this.

16 levels.. I probably could've added more, but they're a right pain in the arse to test!!
Game will be at AGameAWeek tomorrow. Woot!

8-Bit Boulders is now available.

I'd post it to the showcase, but I've currently got the top 3 on the frontpage, and ... I look spammy again!
Make more games, peeps!!

Make more games, peeps!!

I would love too... Honestly, I would just love to have the bug back... At the minute, it's nowhere to be seen, I program bits and bobs, tinker, got a few things sitting there floating, I have 2D stuff, and 3D stuff, but, nothing making me carry any of them on any further.

On the flip side though... Recently, and not just cos of me bot, but recently I've been playing more games then I ever have done for years mind, obviously retro ones, but prior to my PiZero (Which has been on 2-3 hours everyday since I got it), I was very much retro gaming my little ginger head off anyway!

Maybe when that spell goes I'll have more urge to look into what I have more and build upon them, until then mind, yeah, you could say my coding at the minute is half arsed prototyping!

I jut don;t have the time at the moment. I recently got involved in a project with a vouple of other peeps to make a game for the LowRez jam, but due to a nunber of issues - not least me borking some code, it wasn;t finished in time. It will get done at some point, but home improvements and work are taking away my little free time.
