Block Breaker Block Collisions

22nd September 2007

I amaze myself sometime :D
It helps that I already had a similar bit of code on my Think Pink! Workshop entry to make a pink mouse-pointer. I'd done it with Data statements so that the whole game worked straight from source but I've also done some work wi*snip*

There is a lot wrong with that, mole.
I'm trying to get my head around the bits that I think should work but in the mean time...
You need to put Dim in front of ImageArray(16,16)
ReadByte is not what you want.
If you add the line Text a*20,b*20,ImageAr*snip*

Mine's FireFox. May be a caches CSS thing... I am starting to guess now though!

I actually prefer it in the preview manner!
At least the contents of the boxes is right though.
For me when this page loads. The book is drawn unscaled, it then takes some time for it to shrink. I'm using firefox here.
I think that's how it works: Opens it full size then scales it down. The delay may just be the time taken to finish l*snip*

Is the
issue going to be sorted in the Preview?
I only ask because I was trying to do some ASCII art for the "Block Breaker Block Collisions" thread but it didn't work so I made an image. Then Teasy did it and I remembered your comment here...

Genius! We need more people like you Jay, that last sentence really nailed the problem :D
That is a very valid point though. I can't image a great deal of work going into "Thro' The Wall" on the original Spectrum 48K introduction tape!

QOTD: Laptop longevity?

13th September 2007

At the risk of going too far off topic... We have two reach trucks. The older of the two has the steering wheel on the right so you are twisted one way to steer and the other to see where you are going. The newer one has a nice arm rest that comes down on *snip*

Block Breaker Block Collisions

That's a very good point. One thing you could try is breaking down the block into segments or zones. If a collision is detected then, before deleting the block check where the collision is. You could do this with images easier if you have one for each zone*snip*

WM001 - The Pickups

My cogs are ticking over nicely, not sure what the pickups will do but I know how I want to incorporate them.
That doesn't really make sense does it? :D

Block Breaker Block Collisions

Oooh, that's interesting!
I don't understand the second If statement though.
The first one checks for a collision and if the ball is 'inside' the block, it reverses the y direction.
In the second one, The b\\y checks don't seem to match up. If one if tru*snip*

My video camera's battery was killed by leaving it half charged for a long period. It now only runs for half the time (though I've since bought a new camera with different batteries so it doesn't matter)

Making Block?

You can use free image hosts like (Linkage) or (Linkage) to post your pic here.
ImageShack is widely used but can be slow. Both will give you a thumbnail and code to paste here. With ImageShack it is the second code, with PaintedOver it's the first.

QOTD - Worst Coding Habits?

8th September 2007

I guess I do a bit of that too. It's the sort of thing that sounds like a good idea. Building reuseability into a function and acknowledging the potential for alternate uses within the same project.

I'd have to say collisions because I've not really gone there properly yet.

QOTD - Worst Coding Habits?
