5 year ago, today, Blitzcoder closed it's doors.

BC was probably one of the first Forums I joined. Back them, my time online was mostly spent within Newsgroups. The idea of Avatars and BBCode were far away dreams, but I've grown to love them, and haven't really looked back.

I want to take this opportunity to say Thanks to Krylar for having brought about that special site.

It's a shame that it had to leave us.

QOTD : What are your BC Memories?

I remember being tricked into thinking that CW just BC with another name. BlitzCoder was also my first encounter with an Internet forum, but I don't have a whole lot of fond memories. I do remember enjoying the site, but any details are long lost from my memory.

But isn't it a bit too late to thank Krylar?

Those times are now a blur, though i do remember chatting in the IRC with people like Soepy, Psyco / FarceStudios (who's actually coming to visit in summer), Shadee, Krylar, and the rest of the crew. When CW rolled 'round, i hated it at first, warmed up, then hated it for...reasons...

And no, it's never ever too late to thank Krylar, he kicks ass any day.

Thanks Krylar!

BC was the first forum for me as well, and what inspired me to be where I am today as far as programming goes. I have a lot to owe to that website, and I'm happy we can all still be here today . Ah... those days when I was RadiumGames... that name has long since left me, but all the memories stay the same.

Here's to BC!

I remember the first networked game I built in Blitz3D. It actually ran across the internet! It was slow and silly, but it worked.

Don't remember much of it (or much of anything really - awful memory!) but I do remember Afr0 was one of the people who answered my very first question Cheers mate!

Heh, I also remember that. JazzieB answered my first question, but he's not around here anymore. His website is though.

Blitzcoder was also my first forum, though I don't have any outstanding memories of it. I don't think I made much of an impact on the site either; maybe only a few posts, and two lame showcases. I remember naming my first game Space Monkeys, and Jayenkai was the first to comment and yell at me. That's all.

Thanks Krylar!

5 Years? Crikey! But then I must have been here for a year and a half by now.

I've drifted a long way since then and drifted back for a bit and now I can't remember the last time I was here! I guess the coding bug isn't a very strong one in me but it comes and goes.

I found BlitzCoder probably less than a year before it closed and yes, I'm another one who hadn't really experienced forums before. I remember reading all sorts of questions and advice as well as a couple tutorials. It got me started in Blitz and I moved away from playing with HTML and Javascript (because they were so much fun!!) and eventuly bought Blitz3D and had some specific questions I needed answers to.

I',m not sure if he was the first to help but I definitely remember learning a lot from tonyg as well as trying my hand at helping others and teaching myself at the same time. Tony had a lot of time for beginners and would give really good explanations.

I also remember feeling out of place amongst a huge group of people that knew each other so well but I felt part of the group in the end, even if I was still on the edges

I also remember the forum avatar banner thing that someone was putting together. Was that Shadee? I'm guessing it must have been because she was first in the line...

The twelfth one is Sopisoft, or however you spell it. The last one (the statue) is on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember.

To fill in some more blanks, after Krylar there's Genexi2, and after Nawitus there's TheDuck (ha, I only remember that because the D and F keys are so close to each other and I accidentally interchanged them once while typing his name ). After Dark Eagle there's also Mr. Picklesworth, if I remember correctly.

Hmph.
DarkEagle.
That name brings up memories.
He once said to me that if he ever were to attempt an MMORPG, it would be alot better than I could ever make it.
That might have been true back then - I'd like to see him prove it now!
The silly thing is I think I accused Specis or GabrielKnight (or it could have been someone else) of saying that on Codersworkshop. But I remember now that it was DarkEagle.

A lot of those names look very familiar. I can't believe it's been 5 years. I still remember seeing that "blitzcoder is now closed" site and being very, very unhappy.
I like stopping by here every once and a while and saying hi. Blitzcoder was really where I started getting very interested in coding. I'm now a Sophomore in college, double majoring in Computer Systems Engineering and Mathematics. This year I also was a semifinalist in the Microsoft imagine cup in game design ( https://imaginecup.com/ ) under the team name "UMassGames".
So anyhow, hello!

Good to hear from you erbby! Congratulations on your placement -- I think a lot of us are moving through the college stage right now; I'm about to begin my second year, and I know there are others here in the same spot, with a year or two of deviation.

5 years? Wow, I'm still on Blitz Basic 2D -- I did buy BlitzMax, but I find it too hard to understand -- or maybe I'm just being lazy. Either way, I still like coding in Blitz Basic 2D and am thankful for this website.
