Socoder -> Handheld Coding -> fake multi-tasking + windowing?

I'm thinking of attempting a sort of organiser for the DS. The problem is, I want it to look like it multitasks (I don't want to actually multitask, but I do wan't, windows/applications to appear to be open. I figure this would mostly just involve making sure any 'open' apps are still rendered to the background and checking for stylus presses in those regions (to switch back to them). Has anyone ever done something like this before? I'm not quite sure where to start.

|edit| dammit, that should have been in the handheld section |edit|
