So is anyone here a raspberry pi Linux guru?

Guess not :/
What's the problem? Maybe we can fudge our way through it with some GoogleFu and a lot of random guesswork!?

Been trying that for a few days now

Basically this (https://cmaiolino.wordpress.com/) build boots up to vice c64 in a few seconds (excellent!). However, I can not get wifi to work, which is apparently added in the latest build. best I can get is Ethernet on build 2.7, however, I want wifi so I can use it on my pi0.

versions on the site -
2.5 and earlier = no networking working
2.7 = Ethernet, no wifi
2.8 = No Ethernet No Wifi

Looks like a sole developer, probably quite happy to listen to issues. Have you told him about it?

Not directly, I left a grumble in the comments section but nothing more. There's a new version in the works, maybe that'll fix the issues.
It's based on this (https://gunkrist79.wixsite.com/amibian) which according to one of the comments also has c64 built in, I'll give that a try later, see how that goes.

He'd probably get a kick out of your project, I reckon. He's a developer, too!

Gave the Amibian build a try, I now have it booting straight into C64 emulator, with 320x240 tft screen working. Internally it's all running at 640x480 so that the HDMI will still work, the screen has been resized to 720x540 so that it srhinks down to an even percentage so that the pixels are still evenly spaced.

Now to get that arduino keyboard and joysticks working. Waiting for a new tft screen ans the one I was waiting for got 'stuck in customs'.

Crikey, that sounds complicated!!

It's less complicated than the hardware is ugly 😅
My vision and my skills are two entirely different things.
