Not really, I upgraded from a regular hdd to solid a while back, and ever since I've been getting random freezes. I suspect its at least partly because I just cloned the drive without doing a full install, so there's probably a bunch of settings that are wrong.

Today I'm back on the laptop and am upgrading it's functionality to be more like how the new MacMini installation's working.

I'm using mklink (CommandPrompt) to connect virtual folders to the ones on my NAS, (whereas before I would just use Shortcuts) and then I'm generating a secondary backup on the laptop's drive, too. That way I'm directly accessing the files on the NAS instead of having to deal with the version on my laptop and the slightly different version on the NAS.
Now I permanently access the NAS's files, and also do a daily backup to a separate area on the laptop. (And also again to the MacMini)

Started using the tool FreeFileSync(.org) to handle backup file/folder syncing across the devices. Seems to be working well enough, but (as per usual) that initial sync takes FOREVER!!!

I would normally use Microsoft's SyncToy, but I think I've now got too many files in the server/ folder for it to cope with in one swoop, on its initial run. It gets about halfway through, then gets stuck.
.. Bugger..

Another recent find which might come in handy.. Ultimate Windows Tweaker works like how TweakUI used to. Lets you toggle off/on some of those really dumb things that Microsoft should've made options for.

I'm currently backing up using synctoy as I still have the drive I cloned from, so hopefully it wont need backup absolutely everything. It's usually my preferred method to backup the whole drive, so I don't need to remember what I need to install afterwards, I can just have a look at the whole backup.

Yeah, watch out for that limit, though. Like I said, SyncToy (my long time backup companion since it launched!... 2009!!) seemed to fail once it reached about 80% through my backups. But then, it IS 226,088 files, 21,782 folders!

Maybe I should have just copy+pasted the files and let it take the 8 hours it predicted

Nah.. Copy+Paste via Windows doesn't preserve the timestamps, so the next SyncToy run will think all the files are different, and end up re-copying them all.

windows installed, took a couple of tries, it decided half way through that there was some sort of bios fault, forced the bios to do a diagnostic, passed it, set bios settings to default, continued...
Now going through the list of stuff I need to reinstall, gives me a chance to catch up on some quantum leap. In season 3 now, just watched the one with the devil in it.

Tip : Create an "Installs" folder on your NAS (You do have one, right!?) date the folder, and copy every installer that you install, into that folder, so you have them all ready to reinstall next time.

Oh, and a good episode, too! Weeeee!!! (*Sam and DevAL spinning round and round and round!!)

Is everything up and running, now?
Or are there still half a dozen tools you forgot to install?

Yup, there's probably stuff I'll realize I haven't installed in the future. But it's running smoother for now
No random freezes anyway.

[QuantumLeap] Boy Al sure did grumble about the environment a lot!

Can't remember the title of that.. it was Leap Back or Leap Home, with the "Sam leaps into himself as a child" being the other..

Although.. I'm convinced that the episode was called Simo Leap when it first aired..

The Leap Back. Apparently there's another few glimpses of the future in the next couple of seasons. I find it quit amazing that they imagined that only 10 or so years in the future there would be so much coloured acrylic and lights all over the place.

1999 as imagined in 1991, why would anyone expect so much would change?

Because back then, people weren't all depressed about how bleak things would get..
..
It's all gone horribly wrong!

Just look at Windows.

XP was colourful and joyous.
Win10 is a slab of white..

yeah, but still. I'm no scifi writer, but I bet 2030 fashion and technology will be pretty much the same a 2020 fashion and tech.

All depends on wether we settle on the current style or not.
70s stylings weren't the same as 80s, nor 80s as 90s..
Each decade had a particular style to go with it, but things have gotten stuck lately.
The world's become boring.
