Not sure if the accessories by a company called InterAct ever made it across the pond, but many years back I worked for them. They were right up the street from me in Maryland and were one of the largest third-party accessory companies in the USA for gaming consoles. They had all kinds of things, including a little screen that would attach to the GameCube. We would have been bankrupt within weeks if they blocked third-party stuff back then. They produced some awesome joysticks/pads, cables, speakers, etc.

PS4, really? That is a sarcastic "really". I could maybe understand a PS5 doing it, but a PS4 just now popping up with it?

Stepson has gone through two PS5s (at $500 each). One the MOBO fried itself and the DVD drive went kaput. The second one the DVD drive went kaput. He can still use it for downloadable content, but seems better off with his Switch. Good old-fashioned cartridges.

Original PS kicked ass and was very reliable!

When I got Minecraft and a controller I noticed MC required a Xbox controller. This was in 2018 or so. Since then I have only bought those Microsoft controllers.

I am sure the third-party ones would be cleared if they paid a licensing fee, but still. I am not sure I ever liked the default controllers for any system. I would always use third-party ones and usually have extension cords for the controllers.

Really?
I rarely ever used third party. Not except for GameCube. We had loads of family games on GameCube, but couldn't afford anything better than the el cheapo's.
Terrible dpads, all 'round.

Yes, really. Only exception was the N64 as it took a while for third party controllers to appear. One of the most convoluted controllers ever where you needed to be a contortionist to use.

Original NES ones were okay, comfortable and reliable, but I quickly switched to a third-party one with turbo. Later ended up with a NES Advantage controller -- best ever IMHO. But, it wasn't handy to sit and hold, had to sit on the floor at the coffee table.

To be fair, up until the late 90s, all my controllers were joysticks.
Grab a firm hold of the strapping large black rod and give it a good waggle.

I had to look up the Game Cube controller. I never had a Game Cube, that is even WORSE than the N64 one. Dear God! Looks like something from a South Park spoof.

Always preferred joysticks myself. I can do joypads (original NES weren't bad, although the corners cut into your palms), but I need to find something comfortable to hold. Lots of issues with my hands for many, many years.

My old joypads were great, but they are all sticky.

Now for PC stuff I bought these two sets:

I get along with these really well.

The GameCube controller was AMAZINGLY comfortable, to the point where Nintendo continues to support them via dongles, to this day.
On the C-Stick (right thumbstick) there's an octagonal groove, so you can lock the direction to the 8-way points.
Wii Nunchucks also have this, but it's not as pronounced, so doesn't quite work as well.

The two analogue triggers have an extra button "in" the trigger. You squeeze them in an analogue fashion, but if you pull all the way, you can "click" a firm "button" inside. They're really nice!!!
Squeeze the trigger, then.. pop!!

Keep in mind, hand issues and hands that cramp super easy.

Although they were not great for me, it was nice Nintendo tried to cater to every type of game and every style of controller, so somebody could use what they were comfortable with.

I wasn't fond of the 2600 and having separate controllers for different types of games. It is why I liked the controllers that came with my Gemini. Paddle and joystick in the same controller.

I'm pretty sure I'm out of the console buying market nowadays, not that I ever owned a M$ console, I certainly will be staying clear of them. I actually have enough games to not need to buy any / many more nowadays.

An arcade cabionet though....that's a different kettle of fish entirely

I just ordered this to handle my gaming needs. If you put Garlic OS on it, it should handle everything up to PS1.

I am looking forward to it. Feel like a kid at Christmas.
There was a similar model by another company, but it was only dual core.

I hear you. This is only from $$ my Mom has sent for Christmas, and other things like the Orange Pi and the Thumby (which came today) are Christmas gifts from wifey. Ole' Kuron is back to being #BAF (Broke as Fuck)
