There's also the possibility that you have some type of virus or malware that is causing the problem.

Did you think to run Malwware Bytes using Full Scan?

That might fix the problem

Sounds like it might just be a normal system failure after many years of round the clock use.

If you did the Malware scan that might be all you need unless an Avast scan finds something.

Malware does very well.
