The gfx quality is not as bad as I expected (after trying out my snes the other day, on the huge hdtv. But it's still quite bad. Why don't modern tv manufacturers have decent upscaling? would it really be so hard to do? I'm almost tempted to invest in one of those upscaler box thingys... but not quite.

On a side note, I opened up the controller to give it a clean, turns out that the analog stick isn't realy an analog stick, its a mouse! Might have to remember that for the future, might come in handy when creating that trackball gamepad I want.

In all seriousness... Nice one... I'd be Golden Eye'd up to the hilt me if I had one!

I've got over 50 games for my N64 and most of them are excellent. I have a real soft spot for the old machine. It's still permanently set up, even though I never have a chance to play it. Some of my best moments with my son came through playing N64 together - playing Gauntlet together was simply awesome.

I have a RAM Pak on its way, for the handful of games that use it, can you believe used they go for about the same as they did new back in the day! that's just plain nutty if you ask me.

I'm tempted to make a ps2 to n64 controller adapter... wonder how difficult that would be?

For the price of a good knock-off N64 pad it probably isn;t worth it - unless you just want to do it for the jollies.

You'd be better off trying to create a Wavebird type joypad - wireless by using a PS3 pad. Might be more fun

Wireless pads are available, but COSTLY

Really could have done with a couple of those BITD!

I still have the atmega32 I used for my snes joypad that time (which I never use) so the most expensive part will be getting the ps socket and n64 plug, probably just get an extension for each.

OK, my first project regarding jiggering about with stuff I don't 'need' to. It's going to have to be replace the stick on the unofficial controller. I just did a test, where a fully working oem controller has analog readings from -84 to 84, the bloody 3rd party one gives -127 to 127. It goes some way to explaining why I can't do any of the moves properly in 1080 at least!

So, I'm going to rip an analog stick from an old controller, in this case, a classic controller from my Wii, I have to and don't use either. I thought I had a spare nunchuck, but I was wrong. The plan is to simple use my avr to read the analog stick and output the reading to the odd data pattern that the n64 expects from the stick. There are a bunch of projects that have done this so it shouldn't be too hard. worst bit will probably be mounting the whole thing inside the n64 controller...

First though, I'll attempt the sticky-tape fix on the oem controller, the stick is wobbly as hell.

|edit| Nope, not going to happen, not that way anyway. The unofficial controller is pot based, so my options now are read the new pot, output analog signal, or read the old pot and reduce the range then output it.

-- 3rd option, make my own n64 controller...

Right, the plan is in place.

I'll use the ps2 controller code from that mess I made that time with a ps2-ouya controller, along with the gamecube->n64 code that is floating about and make the first(?) ps2->n64 adapter. Not only that, but I'm considering a wireless ps2 controller, which when all is complete, will give me a nice wireless n64 controller which should be at least half the price of anything currently available
