I nearly cried when I saw this: Linkage What a trooper if its just the drive belt thats buggered!

Dirt makes stuff look way worse than it really is. That could be a goer with a bit of TLC.

I never really got your one going - but I suspect the 12V out on my MP-2 may be iffy, *and* the 12V out on my GT65 is dead - just haven't got around to testing them. Internally it's close to mint, now that I changed the belt and repaired the wires some bugger had put screws through!

12v adaptors are ten a penny on eBay!

And if you buy a floppy emulator like mine... You can just leave the disk drive powered down. The floppy emulator works as drive A, CPM fires up from the rom image as expected!

Problem is, I've got a multimeter and know (vaguely) how to use it. I'm just too laz... er... I mean... too busy to gather everything together in the same room.

I know I could go the emulator route but I'd quite like it in it's original state, you know?

Lol... I understand... I'm the same!

That's why I've bidded on a bit of a clap trap of 464/6128 spares and repairs lot... Only a fiver, but, I can nick the keys off them which is what I'm after for that 464, a couple on my 6128 are a little worn so I can replace them!

Then it's all goodness!

Oh cool... if you win and you've got any leftovers, I might need a few bits as both of my 464s have issues; one needs a new power socket (so if you have a dead mainboard), and the tape counter needs replacing on the other. Also, one (I forget which) has some severely knackered keys that could do with replacing.

I'm not keen to do a "frankenstein" with it and get one good CPC and one for scrap, as I've got two different revisions so I'd like to get them both going if I can.

Now see what you've bloody done.

I've just gone and bought a non-working CPC464 from fleaBay. Computer only, no accessories with it, but it does have a working tape counter, full set of keys, and I would presume, a power connector.

A bargain at £20.

Spiffing!

Lol... Give it another 6 months and I'll have everyone Amstraded up to the eyeballs! Hehehe

I'm seriously tempted...

For a long time, I've been somewhat tempted to lazily order a working 6128, instead of attempting to fix the disk drive.
...
I haven't done either..

One day I'll do one of those things!!

I swapped the drive belt on mine and it was a right bitch. You can't fully separate the PCB from the drive shell, and the belt goes in the middle. Plus if you put the belt on twisted, its not gonna work. Took me over an hour and most of that was putting the new belt in.

Bit pissed now. 464 arrived this morning - tape counter reset broken. >:|

I assumed it was working because the seller didn't say that it wasn't.

Had the thing apart this morning. Knew there was "corrosion" on the two back ports and it was "non-working", but that wasn't the end of it.

Aside from the reset button being borked, the tape deck itself is totally knackered. The heads have signs of corrosion, as well as the chassis of the deck itself.

There is also corrosion on the PCB - mostly isolated to around the power connector at the top-right corner, so I can't even salvage that.

Seems to me like this poor little bastard has been stuck in somebody's garden shed unprotected for the best part of 20 years.

So, damage limitation. The CPC is a rev 2 (pt no Z70200 / MC0002D), which I'm sure my first one is with the worn keyboard, so I've knobbled that as it'll probably fit, or at least I can swipe some of the keys. There's little on it that can rust, so that's OK. The membrane underneath is in good shape.

The PCB is going in the bin, and I'll stick the empty shell (plus non-working tape deck with power switch/volume control), as well as the leftover keyboard when I'm done Frankensteining that, on eBay for a tenner each. That way I might at least get most of my money back.

But overall today, to coin a phrase - Fucksocks. :/

Well... I lost that bid for the spares and repairs... Went up to £20, and I wasnt going to bid that much that pretty much represented a 6128 top, broken down 464, which, I only wanted the keys really!

I'll keep my eye open, a "shell" may pop up on Ebay, and I'm only prepared to pay a fiver, even if I've got to wait 6 months, something usually pops up!

Keep them keys safe mind... They can be expensive little buggers to get hold of!
